Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all of you.

I have a question, my work permit expired on the 22nd of December and my workplace has applied for an extension of it. I still haven't received the new work permit yet. They told me that I'll be able to leave the country showing the reference number of the extension at the airport without getting into trouble. Can anyone confirm that?

Ok, you'll need to carry the document with you with the reference number.
Make sure that the doc states that you are allowed to leave & reenter Turkey within a certain period of time without visa. (In case of Residence permit application, it is 15 days).

Hopefully, there won't be any hassle. The first time I had to reenter though, the officer didn't acknowledge the document until after a couple of calls. Was a nuisance.
