Spousal visa for foreigner

Hi.
I am a mauritian lady marrying a south african guy.
Please do you have any info about the spousal visa once we are married. I am in SA under a voluntary visa and this visa will expire in February 2014.
We will be married before this but what happens after that?
How long does it take to get the spousal visa? Do you have any other advice?
Thank you

Manon

My Advice to you is make sure your current visa does not state anything about "Cannot change conditions", otherwise you need a waiver from mission of issue. if you did not state the reason for coming to SA was also marriage.

All should be fine once you apply 30days before current visa expires, and with the Abridged marriage certificate, and other mandatory forms.

Good luck

Hi Manon. I'm a South African guy, married to a European woman. We didn't apply for any special visa for her - just got her a standard six month visa, got married in her second month here (a straightforward affair at a local Home Affairs office - no cost!) and applied immediately for her temporary residence permit. That was granted after four months (Home Affairs here is a lot slower than you'd figure), and she was granted two years' stay.

An important note is that once you're ready to work, you'll need to get your spousal visa endorsed. The South African way means you basically take all the same documents you did the first time around back, along with your employment contract, and apply again.

One last word to the wise: I'd give Germiston Home Affairs a skip if you can (it is a real bun-fight), and rather go to the Sandton Home Affairs (it's real chaotic and you'll feel unsafe, but once you get through the doors the administration is swift).

Hi,

I am South African, and my boyfriend is Brazilian- living in Brazil. We want to move to SA, because I have to continue my studies at the University of Pretoria.

Me and my boyfriend were looking for jobs (for him), but came across this:

A letter from the employer motivating why a citizen or permanent resident could not fill the position, as well as proof of efforts made to obtain the services of a citizen or resident, together with the particulars of the unsuccessful candidates

.

So, we think it would be impossible for him to get a job, as he is a qualified graphic designer- and it is not something that SA can benefit from.

So, we looked at a Partner visa. The only thing that we are concerned about, is the fact that you canŽt apply for a professional job. You can only apply for jobs like waitering, etc. But, as my boyfriend is 29 and needs to work, he needs a professional job, like graphic design etc.

Then, we considered marriage, but according to a lady that works at the South African embassy in Brasilia, my boyfriend will only be able to work and apply for a residency visa after 5 years of staying in SA.

I am not sure if the information I have is correct. Are there any people who are familiar with our situation? I have tried to call the embassies, but no one could give me straight answers.
