Hi.. I hope this is a place for me to get a clear idea on the cost of living in norway. please help me out buddies..
I am an Automation engineer having 7 years exp in Oil and gas industry. Currently, I am working in UAE. I would like to know the monthly expenses in Norway for apartment, food, travel and medical. Is it sufficient 7,20,000 Nok/year for decent life in Norway with wife and baby.? . I have got a job offer in Oslo Norway, offer is as below
* The company is offering a gross 720000 NOK so the net comes as 468000 NOK
* the company does not bare the cost of visa for my family , flight tickets etc
* Its a contract job for 1 year
Below are my queries
1)Is the above salary manageable for a family with 10 month old baby?
2)how much is the rent inside city, food expense and other essential expenses ?
3)Is it possible to get another job at the end of contract or inbetween contract?
4)i doubt whether can we save some amount out of this salary
5) what are the benefits if working there?

720,000 is good
Rent in Oslo monhtly for an apartment: 15,000
Food if you cook at home (Indian food): Maybe 5000 monthly
Medical: Norway has free healthcare, just double check it also applies in your case
Travel: You can buy a monhtly bus / metro card, it is your only options as single fare tickets are very expensive, so buy a pass of some sort as soon as you can

Even I am in UAE and I too have a job offer from a reputed Oil and Gas company in Oslo. Luckily, my salary is also in the same bracket as what you have been offered. I have committed a joining date of 19th Nov 2012. How about you?
Oslo is a completely new place and even I am trying to search an apartment over there.

Hello, these salaries that you are posting here are very good salaries for being Norway. Most people earn around 450,000 gross. For an IT specialist 650,000 - 700,000 is reasonable. Don't know how comparable that is or not to your standard of living in UAE though!
