Marko Turunen, Macacos me mordam !
Drawings and transparencies
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the opening of the exhibition by the finnish artist Marko Turunen «Macacos me Mordam ! Drawings and transparencies»
During the event, his most recent book Xeique PHDA, published by Chili com Carne, will also be launched, in a conversation and autograph session with the author.
Macacos me mordam! (Monkeys bite me !) is the name of the exhibition by Marko Turunen that brings together images drawn over almost two decades. One can find both humor and suffering in this title, an old Portuguese expression. These two elements are a common duo when exploring Turunen's art.
In Tinta nos Nervos, four distinct sets of works are presented that share the same vocabulary and the same strength of the images. Through the different supports, compiling what has been the recurrent theme of his works, beings from the other world and many oddities of this world transit, with bears and extra-terrestrials from other galaxies, cowboys, gunmen and diverse creatures from the far, far, west, in a kind of creative and surreal non-sense.
Marko Turunen (Superturunen) is an artist and illustrator based in Kotka (a small coastal town in Finland near the border between Finland and Russia). He graduated as a sculptor in 1997, but comics are the most visible part of his artistic output. It has books translated into French, Italian, German and now into Portuguese.
