I am an American living in Cairo, Egypt. I quit my job in June 2011 to move here to be with my fiance. This blog chronicles my experiences as I plan a wedding from across the globe, learn how to survive in a new culture and prepare myself for marriage. Enjoy.

Well hello April. I am also April and moving to Cairo and will marry my Egyptian love. While some of his family speaks English, they are very loyal to Arabic and I find myself lost a lot in their conversations. Will be in Cairo from April 4-20 and would love to get together and talk about your amazing journey, wedding planning, emerging into the culture when we obviously don\'t blend, and life in general. Hope to see you soon!

Hi April Im British and lived in cairo for almost 8 years I am married to a local girl and we have a wonderful little girl now. Im lazy with languages so I must confess I have never full learned Arabic but it hasn\'t stopped me (I get by but really I should be fluent). I have set up 3 international companies during my time in Egypt and each has become highly successful (I only wish I had taken share options) I work as an independent business development consultant in the Middle East and I can tell you there is work out there just don\'t expect the same salary structure you enjoyed at home. But $ - pound its about the same with the exception of cars and apartment rentals but general day to day stuff dining out have ing fun its $ to pound the same. If you earned $2,000 a month in the States you can live a very similar lifestyle for EGP2,000 per month in cairo (excluding accm). Anyway enjoy your journey and don\'t be daunted it is a wicked ride.
