Using Uber Safely

This is just to warn everyone about some safety concerns.  Very recently there have been assaults and or deaths involving people who thought they were using Uber and were not in any shape to think about what was happening.

Young people out late drinking quite a bit then calling " Uber" to take them home. Only it was not Uber and they did not go home. Apparently what happened is that some people have gotten into the Uber system and after your call they call you back and tell you there has been a car problem so the car scheduled to pick you up has changed. They make the pick up and you will likely not be seen alive again.

If you book uber and you get a call back like that call Uber and ask them, then inform the police of the incident.

Is this occurring in Mexico or in other countries? Recently there was a murder involving a Cabify driver in Mexico City. The driver has since been arrested.

This was initiated in Puebla, it was in the paper. There have been two incidents there. A 19 yo girl assaulted, and murdered and another since. The 19 yo's friends and family were expecting her home , she had called and said she was taking Uber. Then someone who said they were her driver told her there was a car problem so they were sending a different car. That was the last her friends and family heard from her. Two days later the police found her and traced her phone to the killer a few cities away.

The thing is someone accessed Uber and used it to commit crimes. Who knows if Uber is investigating. But if it worked in one city or country others will try it.

From what you say the idea may have started in Cd. de Mexico. Clearly we must all be careful and aware in the whole world.

I checked and yes it is happening in many places. It looks like it may have started in the U.S.
