Paying in cash ???

hi, hope someone can help me! am currently living in Alicante area and trying to sort out my affairs after my husband died recently. The solicitor i am using has been really helpful in sorting out SUMA ( still not sorted)!, trandsferring accounts to my name etc etc. In the uk i would have expected to have a bill and then pay by check or have some sort of paper trail. The solicitor is however asking that i pay over 4kEU in cash ? is this normal practice? is it safe ?

If you want an opinion - in mine - no is my answer. Although I think this might not come under the new laws making over 2,500€ payments in cash illegal (assuming you are non resident) I think solicitors should issue invoices - he may however want money upfront to act for you but ask if you can arrange a bank transfer and you want an invoice detailing the services you are paying for.

I am seeing some friends for lunch tomorrow, who are solicitors, so I will ask them what they think.
