Health Insurance from EDP

a few weeks ago someone posted a great article on the health care system and available health insurance plans. He is one special plan that I didn't see covered however that is available to any customer of EDP, the electric company of over 800,000 customers throughout Portugal

There is a special health plan plus they offer all their customers that is fantastic that virtually every customer buys. It is not a health plan like others where they assign a doctor to you and choose your doctors, but one who gives you discounts on your private doctor bills and on your prescriptions that you pay. It also provide big discounts on online Doctor calls, provide a limited number of office calls and an on-line appointment service. Best of all there no  age restrictions or pre-existing conditions. Everyone pays a small amount. We are retired and I am over the age that no insurance will even provide coverage but they don't care and provide us with their discounted service for under €20/mo for the two of us plus we also get 8% off our electric bill and an annual   inspection of our home electrical system. If you are a customer of EDP electric company all you need to do is to go to the EDP local office and sign up.

@Samsays thank you for sharing that information! We will definitely inquire as soon as possible !

The EDP health plan is a Health Plan and not Health Insurance.

When you sign up for a health plan, you have access to discounts on access to healthcare in a network of Portuguese healthcare providers. Health insurance, although it also allows you to pay less for medical appointments, exams, treatment or surgery, has other characteristics and its own legal framework.

This EDP health plan is managed by Future Healthcare, one of the PHS networks, already mentioned in this link:
