Internships in Mauritius

There are 2 possibilities for non-residents wishing to temporarily enter the Mauritian job market: the Volontariat International en Entreprise (VIE) (French citizens only) and the internship. It should be noted, however, that the search for an internship or a VIE in Mauritius may require patience and perseverance.

VIE in Mauritius

To find a VIE in Mauritius, please refer to the website Mon Volontariat International via Business France. The conditions are:

• Being between 18 and 28 years old at the time of registration to the program;
• Being of French nationality or a citizen of a European Economic Area (EEA) country;
• Being in good standing with the obligation of the Defense and Citizenship Day (JDC) for the French and the obligations of national service for other countries;
• Having retained the right to vote;
• Having a clean criminal record;
• Having the necessary physical fitness conditions as provided for by the regulations of the host company or organization;
• Applying for and obtaining an Occupational Permit. 

Good to know:

VIE and VIA contracts are for a fixed term, ranging from 6 months to a maximum of 2 years.

Doing an internship in Mauritius

For an internship of less than 3 months, you will need to apply for a tourist visa and beyond 3 months, the employer will need to apply for a Residence Permit for Internship in Mauritius on your behalf. The requirements for residence permits for internship in Mauritius are: 

• Being a non-citizen intending to undertake practical training or industrial training or internship to improve skills and experience;
• Presenting to the Passport and Immigration Office a proof of acceptance from the relevant institution/company in Mauritius;
• Holding a diploma;
• Not receiving remuneration in Mauritius.
