I am myself a Mauritian mother who has just returned to my homeland after more than 10 years spent overseas. I also have a son who was diagnosed with mild autism in 2017 while we were living in the United Arab Emirates.

To be honest, this is the very first time that I heard about your child's situation, but since you told me about her disease which is linked with Autism Spectrum Disorder, I have found some addresses of private schools which welcome SEN students. However, I am not giving you any guarantee that those addresses will be helpful for your child because I myself looked for some SEN schools for my son but I haven't approached them more deeply to have proof of whether they are efficient or not. My daughter is also on the mild side of things however academically she is at a level of a grade 2, SA terms. She has a few autistic tendencies, however very social/verbal.

I wish there were an offering along the following lines for her in Mauritius. There are schools few and far between in SA, and from what I gather, the need in MAU is even greater.

Actually, we found a school for my son called St Nicholas Grammar School. The director of the school is a good friend of my aunt's who herself has been working as a school teacher for many decades before retiring from education. The school director herself has a grandson who is autistic. It is a bit early for me to tell you whether the school is efficient or not, but the reviews I read on Google from that school are encouraging.

My son isn't doing any homeschooling since he started school. He is just doing distance learning because of the Covid19 but on a temporary basis, as he will have to resume soon for face to face classes. In fact, he always had a normal school education, but was followed by an inclusion teacher, and also beneficiated of occupational therapy as well as speech and language therapy when he was in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates). The big inconvenience though is about the costs of those therapies and the fact that they are not disbursed by the insurance, especially when you are an expatriate. However, in Doha, since he started school on the first trimester, he was subscribed into an intervention class, which was already offering a complete package of SEN education, inclusion, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy with a team of teachers and therapists who were already working as school staffs, whereas in Abu Dhabi, we had to look for external therapists but which were recommended by the inclusion department.

Yes, let's hope that your research will be successful and that you will find the appropriate solution for your child. The sources I gave you though are sources you can consider if you would like your child to beneficiate a normal educational curriculum but with additional options to help your child be integrated with a special SEN program. But you can also consider the document Mr Vayid sent you.

@clairedobson There is an English Medium School for special needs and travelling teachers where a few people homeschool in La Croisette. You will need transport which you may organise with a driver
