Good afternoon, I'm Ferit from Istanbul. My debut on expat.com, so I don't know whether this is the section I have to write in, though I've read lots of threads - all apologies.

I've just received my D7 visa. But they've rejected my wife's application due to "insufficient income".  I think there was a misunderstanding, as we applied for D7 together with my wife, not separately. We believe that she can prove her sufficiency. We'll of course appeal and try to take her visa, albeit belatedly. But what do you recommend in the meantime or as the best way out? I'm trying to make an appointment with SEF. Alternatively, we could try to take an ordinary Schengen visa for my wife and go and solve the problem in Lisbon. But I'm confused. I appreciate all your help. Thank you

Hi Ferit, Welcome.

Visa refusal has to be dealt with your consulate, not at SEF.

Applicants can appeal refusal to grant a visa. Available options here:

English

https://vistos.mne.gov.pt/en/national-v … mechanisms

Portuguese

https://vistos.mne.gov.pt/pt/vistos-nac … impugnacao

Best Regards

Johnny, thank you. I might be mistaken but the consulate said that the process had nothing to do with them and that they just scanned the documents and immediately sent to the SEF, which, in turn, decided the matter.

By the way, this is the reason, maybe it helps someone for future -

Unfavorable opinion of the competent services (art. 91, No. 1 of the CPA and 53 of Law No. 23/07, of 4 July with the amendments introduced by law 102/17 of 28 August).

Income does not reach the minimum amount for this purpose.

Regards

Ferit, please check these values:

If together, the minimum is = 9120 + 4560 euros/year

If applied separately, the minimum is 9120 euros each.

But I suggest never target the minimums....

@JohnnyPT Hi, I think I may be in a similar position .  When trying to book on line for VSF appt Manchester, when I reached the part to add second applicant the system kept coming up with an error message.  After several days I rang VSF and they said I had to create 2 users and book the appts separately, which I did.  After reading this post I'm now thinking we may have 2 individual applications rather than a joint one, if that's the case we will be just under the minimum of €18,300.  I do have copies of all the emails sent to VSF re the tech issues.  I emailed them to confirm it was a joint application and I just receive a generic reply referring me to the website which doesn't help at all.  I'll keep trying VSF as we still have 2 weeks before the appt.

Michelle

@JohnnyPT Johnny, thank you. I had already read your threads before applying. I had 17 thousand Euros deposited in 2 banks as well as the rental income of my wife amounting to 7,750 Euros a year. If taken together as husband and wife, that's quite enough. We thought that they would take it together but they dealt with it separately, I suppose. Now I'll try to prove them with two different bank accounts, 10,000+10,000. Regards.

@shelly14 Michelle, that's exactly what we experienced! We were able to receive only generic replies, and thought that it would be a joint application but it turned out to be separate.  And I have a huge question in my mind - why didn't the official in the consulate warn us while receiving the documents that my wife "lacked the necessary conditions" or advised us to frame the application accordingly?

@williamstony360 hi William, I've got a quick question If you may be able to answer. I applied for my D7 visa from VFS dubai on Dec 29. Its been around 80 days now. Wondering how long it took you?

Reside in Portugal - five years - still waiting for SEF appointment despite hiring solicitor to help with this process.   Meet with all requirements etc 2019 -2020 paper document to prove residency in Portugal.  Since this time no luck, help or advice despite contacting all government websites and contacting via telephone and email.

As you have been living in Portugal since 2019:

The request to exchange the current residence document (EU Citizen Registration Certificate issued by the City Council or EU Citizen Permanent Residence Certificate issued by SEF) is made through the Brexit portal:

My husband planning to retire in Portugal so I hope you can help us guys for the process , like what we need to do and what we needed.

Thank You

Hi Leslie,

Please see what already exists in other threads. Search facility on top right side. Only when you can't find an answer should you open a new one. With such vague questions, it is difficult to get answers...

@wcg2 I sm sure your post is an eye opener for many who do not go it alone. Some of the figures quoted to achieve the D7 seem horrendous, particularly for those from US.

It's commendable you did it yourself. I have been through the process for my brother from UK  and we are waiting to here the outcome.

In total the cost €735 we overspent on notarisation using Portuguese Lawyer. He will stay at my property - no expense there.

Good Luck with your future in Portugal 😊
