Vaccine boosters

Just wondering if anyone here in the Bavaro area knows where you can go for a pfizer booster shot

Most likely the airport.

You can go to Blue Mall and get it for free.  Take your passport.  Go to outside of mall by the pizza hut and just down to the left is a white door where it is.  When you enter tell them inside you are there to get your booster as they take in booster shots first so you go ahead of others there.  We were in and out in 10 mins.  It is only the Pfizer or the chinese one available to choose from.

Airport vaccinations were completed in October.

Blue Mall, near the restaurant area (Pizza Hut like the previous poster indicated), up until 2pm on weekdays, but try to get there before 1:00 because if they didn't prep enough vials, you'd be SOL.  Bring your vax card and your ID.

Thank you for getting vaxxed!    Let us know how it goes!

It takes about 2 to 3 weeks to get the full antibody boost from a third shot so one will have to be very cautious in the interim.

But it will be worth it in the long term for us all to try and stem future mutations.

But be aware......

Booster Protection May Wane in About 10 Weeks, New Data Shows

https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-vaccine/news/20211227/covid-booster-protection-wanes-new-data#:~:text=Among%20those%20who%20received%20three,effectiveness%20up%20to%209%20weeks.

Among those who received three Pfizer doses, vaccine effectiveness was 70% about a week after the booster but dropped to 45% after 10 weeks. At the same time, those who received an initial two-dose series of the Pfizer vaccine and then a Moderna booster seemed to have 75% effectiveness up to 9 weeks.

we just got our moderna booster last weekend.

Sinovac COVID-19 shot with Pfizer booster less effective against Omicron - study

https://www.reuters.com/business/health … 021-12-31/

Sinovac's two-dose COVID-19 vaccine followed by a booster Pfizer-BioNTech shot showed a lower immune response against the Omicron variant compared with other strains, according to a study by researchers.

The study, which has not been peer-reviewed yet, was conducted by researchers from Yale University, the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Health and other institutions.

Perhaps time for DR government to review giving Pfizer boosters?

Antibodies are not the only body defence in keeping one safe. DR still has 4 million Sinovac doses according to the Minister two days ago so maybe it is time to use these shots?

They are probably expired like most other products in the DR!  Be sure to ask before getting it!

Sinovac Coronovac has a 2 year shelf life.

Pfizer much less once removed from deep freeze storage and has to be used for a specific number of shots in short time.

AZ also has a shorter shelf life but DR has exported many of the doses it received from that company due to unpopularity in DR after the negative publicity on blood clots.

Perhaps checking if the Pfizer vaccine has been stored correctly at low temperatures is also good advice if you doubt the Dominican medics?

We may have all forgotten covid19 for the time being with very few daily cases in DR but is is evolving into new variants in Asia if you read the press with mixtures of the omicron variants and delta (XD, XE and XF) and these are taking over and appearing in Europe. Enough said until they become a threat here again.

The availability of boosters will depend on expirations. DR has no AZ and is trying to challenge that company now supplying the quota ordered. The Pfizer vaccines held are becoming outdated each month. Sinovac remains valid for another year.

MOH is touring the country, house to house, seeking the unvaccinated. Happens here in the campo regularly and the vaccination numbers are creeping up.

My second booster, which will be Sinovac, is due from next week. Annual boosters will probably become the norm.

What are the current rules for 4th shots? We had our 3rd in August, so we're eligible time wise, but last I checked they were only for ages 60+.
In reality you can just go get it. They have hundreds of thousands of vaccines close to expiration!
