Special needs and autism school

Hi my name is Faeza from London. I would like to get some information about Special needs and Autism school in Mauritius. Im already a care provider and an Ofsted registered person in UK.
I was born in mauritius and left for higher studies when i was 17. ive been living in london for 22 years. I want to come back to mauritius and open a british standard special needs school. i would like to know if there is a  requirement in mauritius.
can someone gives me some feedback please.

Hello Faeza,
That's really good news as I think that we should have more professionals like you here...There is still so much misunderstanding about autism here.
I think that if you have the Mauritian nationality  things will be much easier for you.
Anyway, there is a need for a professional autism association.
Good luck and hope that we can meet when you are here.
Cheers,
Ka

Hello everyone,

Not many specialised schools in Mauritius. There's one special need school in my neighbourhood : http://www.autismemaurice.org/en/   maybe you could get in touch to gather information.

Depending on the type of schools and children it would welcome, you will need to register with the competent authorities.

Pre-school > Early Childhood Care and Education Authority
Primary,
Secondary,
Tertiary
Etc

Special needs > SEN UNIT (Special Education Needs Schools).

Here is the documentation about SEN Schools

- Norms and Standards for Special Education Needs Schools

- List of SEN schools

Anoushka

Hi Ka,
Thank you so much for reading my message. I want to come at the end of December but at the moment with the covid cases in Mauritius, I don't know whether the government of UK will put Mauritius on the red list. So far all good, people are travelling. I'll wait until mid December and see whether I can come. I will definitely get in touch with you when am there.

Hi Anoushka
Hope you are doing well. Many thanks for the information. It has been very helpful. I'm looking forward to come soon as things calm down in Mauritius.
Take care and stay safe.

hello Faeza,

It's good news;here in Mauritius, it's rather easy to get a child  to be identified as being on the autism spectrum; on the other hand, once the observation is made, there is no therapy available. So you are welcome

Hi
I think there's a big demand for centres for autistic children and  trained professionals. Feel free to contact me when you arrive in Mauritius.

Thanks D, yes there is definitely a need!

@faezabeeseidally Hi I'm a British expat living here in mauritius, I also have a background in care and worked for autism West Midlands in the UK for 4 years as well as various day care centers and residential homes.
If you would like to collaborate somehow in the future do not hesitate to contact me.

Hello,

Thank you for your consideration to work in Mauritius, @faezabeeseidally. We so badly needs a good autism school here in Mauritius. When i see the amount of autism cases and these schools need are mostly money minded and exoensive. I don't understand how people are expected to pay speech therapies, school and support teachers. It would be great if we could receive more from expertise like you @faezabeeseidally. I am a support teacher of two wonderful twins. They are so smart and i am so sad how they are never given opportunities to succeed here. Their parents are so worried of what to do next. Which door to knock? If anyone could   help out and provide me a list of good school for autism in Mauritius. Pre primary and primary.

Thank you.

Please contact Summit school in Cottage - they're an amazing inclusive school

As parents to a child with autism, I can say that we are considering emigrating to Mauritius, and one of our main criteria in deciding whether Mauritius is the right place for us, is it's ability/capacity for dealing with children on the spectrum.

I hope that this is helpful information for you.
