Gas Installation

Last year we bought and moved to our new home in Torrejon del Rey, Castilla la Mancha.  The house was used as a second residence by the previous owners and it shows.  One problem is the gas installation which is run off two propane gas cannisters. Its a home with roughly 120m squared so you can imagine, one week of running central heating during winter and thats it, the cannisters are empty!

So we are thinking of making a change.  Easiest option is to hook up two or four more cannisters, but the experiences we had during some periods (eg Philomena and being cut off for three days) gave us headaches finding replacement cannisters.

There is no gas natural in our area as yet so thats no option.  From all we read and speaking to neighbours, the best solution now seems to change to pellets.  I've read a lot about the environmental impact so far which is a big factor and seems the only drawback.  But, has anyone had any experience of changing to pellets?  Would appreciate any feedback.

Hi, are you using the 45kg lpg cylinders?
Using 4 or 6 x 45kg cylinders connected via 2 manifolds (2 or 3 cylinders per manifold) and a change over valve is possibly a good option.

Yes, they are the smaller Repsol 11kg cylinders.  The easier and probably cheaper option is that, hook up a couple more so that what we have last longer.

A single 11kg bottle contains almost 150 kWh of gas.

The standard 11kg bottle is not designed to be connected in parallel with other bottles. You can get 15/18kg bottles that are normally used with fork lift trucks. They and the 45kg bottles have a different connection method.
You need to talk with a local LPG supplier to see what is the best option available for you.

Thanks for the advise. Its certainyl the cheaper, easier option so will investigate more
