Mauritius eases out travel protocol for Vaccinated Travellers as from 1st September 2021

With the successful vaccination rollout, travel protocols for vaccinated travellers are being further relaxed. As from 1st September, vaccinated guests would spend only 7 days in a special ‘resort bubble' hotel before going out to discover more of the Indian Ocean paradise.

The approved Covid-19 safe resorts are available at: www.mauritiusnow.com The percentage of vaccinated people are as follows:
• First dose/total population: 63%
• Fully vaccinated/total population: 56%

Arvind Bundhun, Director of MTPA, said: “This is a major leap towards the full reopening of its borders on 1st October, when vaccinated international travellers will be welcomed in without restrictions.

Visitors who present a negative PCR test taken in the 72 hours prior to embarkation will be able to explore the island freely from the moment they arrive”.

The Mauritian government took the decision in January to prioritise tourism workers and hotel staff in the vaccine rollout to ensure visitors will be welcomed into a safe and secure environment in Mauritius.

Airline capacity from Europe and the Middle East is currently provided by Air Mauritius, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Air France, Kenya Airways and British Airways.

International visitors can currently book their ‘resort bubble' holidays either via tour operators or directly with the hotels. Unvaccinated travellers are required to complete a 14-day quarantine period in a designated quarantine hotel.

Hello everyone,

Trust you are all well.

Heard that the travel ban on travelers from South Africa has been lifted as from today. They are no longer required to spend 15 days in another country prior to coming here.

Can anyone confirm the news ? Or perhaps does someone has a link to the official communiqué ?

Thanks in advance
Anou

any idea when air mauritius resumes flights from south africa

As far as I am aware they are flying currently from the 1st November onwards on a Friday and Sunday - South Africa / Mauritius.

I would be very interested to know, we are simply waiting on this news to book our tickets Jhb to the island.  So wait to hear.

Found the official announcement from facebook.com/SeeMauritius/ :

Mauritius lifts travel ban for South Africa

The travel ban between South Africa and Mauritius has been lifted today (10 September). South Africans can now travel to Mauritius on authorised commercial flights without first having to spend fifteen (15) days outside the country.

“We welcome the decision by the Mauritian government. South Africa remains a proximity and priority market for tourism on the island. We are delighted that we will be able to restart our long-standing relationship after an 18-month ban on travel,” says Arvind Bundhun, Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA).

Authorised commercial flights from South Africa to Mauritius will commence on 01 October 2021 namely Air Mauritius, Comair South Africa, SAA and Fly Safair.
From 01 October 2021, fully vaccinated travellers from South Africa, will be allowed to stay at any hotel, resort or accommodation of their choice and move freely around the island.

Unvaccinated travellers will have to undergo 14 days quarantine in a state designated quarantine facility.

“Mauritius has worked hard to develop and implement protocols that will keep both travellers and citizens as safe as possible from Covid-19 and the effects of the pandemic. Travellers can be assured of Government's commitment to the health and safety of all travellers,” says Arvind Bundhun.

“South Africans have been longing for the Mauritius they know and love, from white sandy beaches and clear blue seas and skies, to our warm and friendly people, and so much more. Mauritius is ready and we can't wait to welcome South Africans back to our beautiful country,” says Arvind Bundhun.
