UK to Abu Dhabi - Anxiety and excitement

Hello everyone,

I am moving from the UK to Abu Dhabi for a teaching job in a month or two. I will be moving alone and is the first time away from London.

Any tips/tricks/advice anyone can offer?

Curiosities:
Making friends?
Buy/rent a car?
Any nice spots for a cosy meal?
Any apps that make life easier there?

Making friends?
Easy in the UAE there are plenty of groups sharing interests and activities. Expats are friendly and want to make friends as friends become family in a foreign land.
Buy/rent a car?
We rented for the whole 8 years in the UAE as everything is taken care of and we had a new car every couple of years. It made it easier when we left. Others find buying more favourable and even take their cars home with them at end of contract.
Any nice spots for a cosy meal?
There are so many in Abu Dhabi. If you want to sit and look at the sea all the hotels along Saadiyat beach have beautiful restaurants and bars. If you want an inexpensive meal the city has so many options it all depends on what you want to eat.
Any apps that make life easier there?
Dubizzle (Abu Dhabi) have an app you will find to be excellent for buying, selling, finding places to live etc.
