Hark Expats, Denizens and Citizens! Lend me your ears! (or in this case, eyes :P)

What makes life interesting? having someone to share it with ofcourse, along with something else, finding your calling.

The calling has often been discussed but never fully understood. What is it? How do we find it?

Anything that gives you pleasure in life, that makes you feel happy and content, is a calling. it can be a job, a career, a hobby or a skill that you have. It does not necessarily have to generate an income for you (altho that would be an added bonus!) but, its what you do to be happy.

There is an expression, a proverb, that goes "love what you do until you do what you love", that is about calling.

Have you found your calling in life, in the country in which you currently reside?

I believe I have found mine, and that is to write, I have always been a fan of books, and ever since starting a blog, I have come to realise the joys of writing, of expressing myself in a way different than audibly or gesticulating.

What about you?

Wow, thanks for this sharing legacy!:)

I really like this proverb "love what you do until you do what you love".

But I've never thought about my calling.

I'll think about it now.;)

Harmonie.

enigma

I have found my calling a long time ago but under circumstances I can't go after it. However, from time to time I indulge into it. It's a hobby maybe or a sports that I crave for or in more blatant way I am obsessed with. Isn't it right to be obsessed to our dreams or should I say calling. It is actually where I could found myself found in control of everything and yes it makes me extremely happy and surprisingly contented. :)

Interesting concepts. What some might define as a calling I call "Quest energy".

It seems to me if you find your "Quest" or "calling" there is no question about it. Suddenly work is something you want to do.

Before I found my calling I had to force myself to do everything. It was a burden that I had to do. Why? Because everyone always told me what I had to do.

When I found my calling I stopped using an alarm clock because I automatically got up early. I was excited about what I wanted to do.

Suddenly I stopped living for what others said I had to do and lived for what I wanted to do.

If you have your calling you are willing to do whatever needs to be done to achieve your goal.

That is why most people do not succeed they are not willing to pay the price and do what is necessary for accomplishing their goal.

Just random thoughts. I encourage everyone to find a goal that they can live and breath, every day.

As for my own Quest that is sacred within me, I do not talk about it openly. But the people who know me will tell you it is clearly very obvious and expresses in what I do.

Nice thread. ;)

Hey there,

I believe the calling is something very deep and very strong. Many times it can be confused with something more superficial... Actually, many of those superficial things might even need to be sacrificed in order to reach our calling, since all is about priorities...

Few are those who are really following their calling in this day and age, few are those who know their own calling.

But a person who is following his/her calling can be a blessing for everyone around them, in some sense.

Thanks for starting this thread :) !

no thanks necessary Helen, glad to see people are responding positively :D

the beauty of finding your calling is the fulfillment it creates in your life.

my calling is writing, i love to do it, i think i am good at it and i hope that one day it can be my source of income. till such time i enjoy the very fact of having discovered it as my calling, and am in no rush to give up my day job.. yet.

leaps of faith need to be made, granted, but in this day in age, its best to measure twice and cut once.

would be great if people can mention what they find their calling to be, and the personal satisfaction they reap from it.

:D

Mr.Legacy, sir I am the brotherhood. All I do is express the light.

Wrapped it up in two sentences. Short and sweet. ;)

legacy,

Great question; I have not reached my calling at this time. At one time I thought being a firefighter in the United States was my calling. After seeing many people die over the years I realized it was time to move on (very difficult because of the income of a firefighter). I'm hoping to work part-time or volunteer in a position where people truly are happy, where that place is I don't know at this time. That will be my calling!

SportsNut, I do believe your passion and calling might lie in your namesake :)

Legacy,

Thanks for your kind words, your statement gave me the idea of maybe being a volunteer tour guide or California ambassador for those traveling to the US. Of course this will be done when I am not outdoors hiking some extreme mountain.

Thanks again

Robert

"Love what you do until you do what you love" sounds like accepting your lot in life and not seeking improvement.

sounds like looking at the glass half empty; the true meaning is lost in your translation, heres why. nobody ever starts a race from the middle, the person who dreams to be a CEO doesnt start as a CEO, they must do their time in the trenches, by loving the fact that this turbulent time will lead to the eventual position as CEO, they love what they do until the do what they love.

its not a matter of accepting and not seeking improvement, never was.
