TV Channels

I can get fiber cable from MEO at my house in Budens. Can I get American language channels from the likes of NETFLIX, Google, HULU if I have a SMART TV? Cable seems dominated by Portuguese, which I understand, but it will take me some time to get any level of proficiency with the language.

Also, I have three large TVs that I would like to ship from the US. Is there a recommended shipper? What are the dimensions of a normal shipping container, and average cost of shipping. Of course, I will read about the tax and other rules, but we hired a law firm to help in that regard. Thank you!

Your smart TVs should already have installed VOD (Video On Demand) apps of your US streaming services, like Netflix, so you will be able to use those services in Portugal as well, as long as you have a good internet connection and use a VPN.

Eg. For Netflix:

With MEO Box, you can access Netflix on channel 88.
Just log in, enter the email and password associated with your Netflix account and you can start streaming watching straight away.

Regarding HBO Portugal service on the TV Box is exclusive to Vodafone Portugal. With MEO operator, you must have an Android TV Box, only available to customers with MEO optical fibre.

Please note:

All TV Programmes not in Portuguese are subtitled in European Portuguese. In Portugal, movies/series are not dubbed, contrary to what happens in most European countries. All media contents are presented on all TV channels, streaming platforms and in cinemas, ALWAYS in their native language.

Thank you JohnnyPT. I appreciate your efforts and willingness to share!

Doesn't Roku work? I thought all you need is Wi-Fi and it does not matter what country you are in.

Yes, you can :)

For setting up Roku in Portugal, you just need to switch on the wireless remote that comes with it, connect the box/pen to the Internet, create an account on Roku and activate the device you've just connected. It's not common in Portugal but for english speakers expats it's a great option.

For now, you can only buy Roku in Portugal through the Internet (Amazon & other webstores).

Why are roku's and those type of devices not that popular in Portugal? Are there not enough Portuguese language apps on them yet?
