Learning Balinese

I would like to learn basic Balinese before I move.
Which language would be best as there seems to be more than one?
Also, would like to pay someone on the island for this having read how hard things are there.
Would an advert in the Bali Sun do it? Although they'd have to read English then which's a bit overkill and have access to the internet

.

Living in Bali, and married to a Balinese for the past 20+ years I totally agree with Fred's comment above.  Bahasa Indonesia makes much more sense than learning Bahasa Bali.  To further complicate things, there are three levels of Balinese.  Indonesian is much easier to learn.

Although the Balinese most often prefer to communicate with each other in Balinese, they all understand Indonesian very well and all governmental communications...notices, etc. are in Indonesian.

If you insist on Balinese, I can highly recommend these folks:

Thank you both for your replies and decided Indonesian is the way to go

A good decision, IMHO.  Once here, you'll learn some Balinese anyway.

Good luck with your learning, and most importantly...with your move and life change.

Cheers!
