Moving to Belize just before the crisis

Hi everybody,

Taking the plunge and daring to move abroad is a real challenge, but when your move to Belize is marked by an unprecedented health, social and economic crisis, as we have been experiencing for just over a year, this change can be much more significant and demanding. If you moved to Belize shortly before or during the pandemic, we would like to know more about your experience.

When and under what circumstances did you move to Belize?

What impact did the restrictions have on your integration into the country?

Were you able to make new friends in your host country and get used to the new culture and environment?

Have you had the opportunity to discover the country or the region where you are staying despite that?

Do you feel "at home" in this new place?

Thanks for your contribution!

Hello yes we moved during the crisis!
We came to Ambergris Caye Belize in November of 2020 to house hunt, we had to download the Belize Heath app and take a covid test to get into the country.
Going back to Canada at that time was easy, once we arrived we had to quarantine for 14 days.
We decided on a place, got a Belizean lawyer who took care of the purchase of our new property.
We came back on March 27th with 6 suitcases, 2 carry on bags and 2 backpacks, everything else we sold.
We needed to get a covid test and fill in the Belize Heath app once again on our arrival.
In the 6 weeks we've been here we have been fixing up our place, getting our patio furniture and we just ordered our new golf cart.
We have to go get our visa stamp once a month as well.
We have found all the grocery stores, fruit stands and hardware stores.
The wildlife on the island is amazing we see something new everyday and are loving our new home! We have taken fishing and snorkeling trips which have fantastic.
We have met all sorts of people and our neighbours are super nice.
Flying or taking the ferry are both breath taking to get to and from the island.
