Federal income tax filing

For those that are required to file US federal income tax. Many do not seem to be aware that you can e-file online for free with many online platforms e.g TurboTax etc. It is a gov't requirement that it be offered to certain individual who qualify. You can just Google irs freee-file, or something similar. You will be directed to a site to determine if you qualify. Then you choose the company you want to use.

Taxact has been my choice for the last 12 yrs without any hiccups and issues with IRS.
FYI:   IRS to delay tax deadline by one month to May 17

I had lunch in HCMC yesterday with my attorney, Ho Thi Van Khanh, who is a longtime and helpful member of this forum.

She mentioned that she is available to help any foreigners who have complicated tax issues that involve income earned here in Vietnam.

If you need her contact info, send me a private message.

Caution though:  your tax must be paid by the regular due date even though your return is not due for two months more.

One important caveat I discovered a couple years ago, if you have a "non-resident alien" spouse and they don't have an ITIN, you can't e-file anymore.

To get an ITIN, you have to submit a paper return along with an ITIN application for your spouse and their "original" identification documents.
