Cost of Living in Greece in 2021

Hello everybody,

We would like to take stock of the changing cost of living in Greece, particularly in your city or region. The aim is to measure the impact that the health crisis may have had on your expenses.
This will help other expatriates on the spot and all those who would like to relocate there in the near or more distant future.

> What is the price of a property rental in Greece? What about buying a property?

> How much does petrol cost or how much does it cost to use the various public transport services?

> How much do you spend on average on your weekly groceries in Greece? Have you noticed a change in the price of staple foodstuff?

> What is the price of your health insurance? How much does seeing a general practitioner or specialist cost?

> How much are your children's school fees? What about the cost of childcare?

> How much do you spend on your regular bills (water, electricity, mobile phone package, internet subscription etc.) on a monthly basis?

> What budget do you set aside for your leisure activities in Greece? What is the price of a cinema or concert ticket? How much does a subscription to a gym cost?

Do not hesitate to indicate any other price changes you may have in mind.

Many thanks,

Cheryl,

my monthly expenses is around 400 to 500 euros

Hi Cheryl,
My monthly shopping for food for a family of 4, (2 adult men and a teenage boy) is roughly 500 euros, probably more. Our heating (gas) is around 50 euros/month in the southern suburbs. Gasoline 1.45/litre, electricity bill is around 75 - 100 euro a month (billed every two months) depends how much you use. In the southern part of Athens, although I have a clothes dryer I hardly use it but the bill is much more if I do use it often and more in the summer because of A/C. Water is around 60 euros every 4 months, my telephone/unlimited calls to Canada, unlimited internet use and unlimited mobile and local calls is 33 euros /month, I have a contract for my mobile 20 euros/month for 2GB and probably hundreds of calls (I only call my family and I never think about units). I pay 600 euros every 6 months for private medical/hospital care, even though I'm covered by the National Insurance, as is anyone who works or is a pensioner in Greece. I pay a lot for private because I'm over 55. The older you get, the more you pay but I'm glad I have it. My kids went to public schools but I pay 350 euros/month for a tutoring school ( after public school hours) for my son, now in last year of high school. I paid around 200/month for language schools for 3 kids. I never go to cinemas or the theatre (I'm asleep by 9pm. in the winter.)

Hope this helps you. 😊
