New members of the Morocco forum, introduce yourselves here - 2021

Women in morocco have always have their rights but become limited when they get married. Ladies in morocco are the real bosses nowadays. The husbands and partners are just for the show.

Good day to all. We are a retired Canadian couple who sold literally everything but clothes, phones and laptops and moved to Mexico in 2013. We were bitten hard  by the travel bug in 2017 and left Mexico indefinitely to wander. Covid 19 put a stop to our plans and we returned to Mexico at the end of June 2020 to wait until it was feasible to travel again. We were vaccinated in March and April of this year in Mexico (Pfizer) and have carefully resumed our travels. Our first stop was Canada, which finally opened up to fully vaccinated Canadians without quarantine, then Lisbon and Faro in Portugal, on to Barcelona, then Albania, followed by some time on Corfu, Greece until finally slowing down for a month here in Batumi, Georgia.
Obviously, travel has been more of a challenge than usual, due to changing pandemic rules but adhering to the different protocols and continuing with masking and hand washing, along with the other common sense things one can do to help keep us and others healthy has brought us here safe and sound. There are those who might suggest we just stay home but that is for another discussion.
We have been wondering where we might go after this month and low and behold, Morocco jumped out at us sooner rather than later. It had always been on the back burner, to be visited after we finished with S.E. Asia, but plans change and here is Morocco, on the front burner and coming up fast.
We have a handful of Turkish Airlines vouchers (due to cancelled flights) we can use to get to Marrakesh, then it's a 3 1/2 hour bus ride to Agadir. AirBnb's are plentiful and we're planning to stay for the full 90 days allowed.
Just thought we would write this by way of saying "hi" and hope to meet some of you folks to glean some info and advice from your experiences in the country and Agadir in particular.
September is coming up fast.
Hasta luego.   Pete

Hey Pete! sounds like you 2 are a couple of years ahead of us. So many places that we have our sights set on that you have done. We started our full time travel after selling all in 2019, by moving to Salinas, Ecuador. Then felt a little trapped there by covid for over a year, then on to Olon, Cuenca and Santa Cruz (Galapagos) before moving from Ecuador to Mexico City. Our plan is to try lisbon for a month after the new year, then on to Agadir for three months. We plan on a visa run to the Canary Islands (cheap flight) then 3 months in maybe Fez, then a visa run to Iberia (where ever is cheap) then 3 months in Tangiers. We follow Vagabond Awake on You Tube and believe in the slow travel method- 3 month minimum where feasible. We would love 2023 in southeast asia but we will see what covid has to offer at that point, Eastern block is the current backup plan! Anyway, best of luck, sorry I can't help you, but the fact that you are preceeding us gives us more faith in our choices.
Cheers bud,
Nate and Janice

We would love to be back in SE Asia. We left Da Nang after 9 months due to Covid. Chances are, we'll meet you on the road. The world is small. Thanks for the reply, let's keep in touch and best of luck with your plans.

Salamo Alykom to All,

my husband and I are planning to move to tangier in Summer, looking to settle down a business but not yet sure what kind of business we can lunch.

we do not know the Moroccan market yet, i would love to hear your experiences and ups and downs of creating a business in morocco Tangier especially and your ideas of a business that you think could work best.

Looking forward to your replies.
meet you all one day :)

Salaam! Hope everyone is having a good day.  My name is Sarah. I am from Philadelphia, US.  I am currently looking for English teaching jobs in Morocco and would like to move there by the end of this year.  I have been sending my resume and cover letter, have a bachelor's degree, TEFL certificate, and experience teaching here and abroad.  I just started applying last week but haven't heard anything back yet.  I am getting super nervous about it, to be honest.  Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

Sallams.

I'm a British expat been living in Morocco for almost 7 years now. Have a consulting busienss in Marrakech www.esaberinvest.com as well as other countries.

Firstly, Morocco is fantastic place to settle, hey it's been 7 years and I'm still hear lol.

Like all countries they have there ups and downs but you must be patient especially with the people and the culture. I can assure you it's much different to what we're are used to but that's something I'm prepared to compromise lol.

Corruption or should we say open corruption happens a lot and that's something you will also get used to seeing so again patience is key and not to get upset or frustrated.

As a expat I would recommend opening a convertible Dh bank account which only allows foreign currency to be credited into the account. However by doing this you are free to take the money back outside of morocco as and when you want.

Also once résidence you can open a local Dh account for any monies you accept in local currency. However there are limits to how much you can send out the country. Anyways this is another topic I guess.

I strongly advise to learn French and Arabic/Darija if you don't already know it. If you no both or one of them this will help you excel much quicker in Morocco.

Please feel free to message me privately and I can share my info with you should you want to generally talk or need any help with anything.

Regards

Arif

Hi! My wife and I did the Imperial Cities Tour with Gate1 just before Covid as the start of our retirement year and our excellent guide, Abdullah, told us lots of stories about his home town - Agadir. So, we are coming to visit for January and February and hope we like it!

My wife, Kathryn is a retired teacher and loves cooking - she is looking forward to cooking with all of the local produce.

I am a partially retired electronics engineer and I love live music, especially classic rock, blues, country rock and folk.

Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

Iain

Hi Ian, Im a British Expat been living here for 7 years now. You will love Morocco. Agadir is amazing especially the weather, and beaches. You are coming in Winter tho so it can get quite cold in these cities due to the Atlantic Ocean so wrap up warm especially at night.

Im living in marrekech but love exploring Morocco in general. As for cooking you wife will love it and enjoy it. If you're staying in Riads some places allow you to watch and cook with them or you can take our cooking session at local places.

If you enjoy hiking then you must visit Paradise valley not to far from Agadir but its Hiking in to the mountain to get to paradise. :)

Morocco in genreal mainly Marrakech hold lots of music festivals and from what iv been told the Oases Music Festival in Marrakech starts in September if you're still here. Either way there are lots of music bar and live music places where you can go and relax.

If you enjoy seafood Agadir has some of the best seafood places some overlooking the beach for a nice relaxing romantic sunset dinner not to far out from Agadir.

Either way you will enjoy your visit and stay and feel free to private message for any help or advise always nice to help fellow travellers.

Thanks - this all sounds very encouraging. We understand that it will be colder than during the summer, but it still looks warmer than where we live in Canada - but we will follow your advice and bring some warmer clothing.

Thanks for your message.

Iain

Hi Soukaynasadik, This questions has been responded to on your last post but either way please see the response below:

To Summarise: yes it's fine as its consecutive payslips and no missing months.

https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=366120&p=2#5295436

Hi yes I don't see that being a problem at all. As long as it consistent with the dates. For example if you apply from November then he should show the last 6 months from this Month and same year. They can't be any missing dates between the wage slips.

so June, July, Aug, Sept, Oct, November 2021 would be fine but if you show: May,  June, July, August, September  & November. (means you have one month missing) then it will not be accepted and you would have to wait for a full 6 months. unless he has the savings as per below.

He will have to show  an income of at least £18,600 per year before tax. Last 6 Months wages slips regardless of if its a new or old job as it still counts.

His income can be a combination of:

earnings from employment or self-employment - but only if you're working in the UK
a pension
maternity, paternity, adoption or sick pay
other income such as from rent or shares
If your income is less than you need, you can use cash savings to meet the financial requirement. You'll need £16,000 plus £2.50 for every £1 your income is below the financial requirement. The savings must have been in his name for 6 months or more.

Before you make your application, you might have to:

Pass an English language test –  find out more about the English test  on GOV.UK

Get a medical test to show they don't have Tuberculosis (TB) –  find out more about the TB test  on GOV.UK

Coronavirus – if you can't take the English language test

You can still apply for a visa if they can't go to a language test appointment because:

Test centres near them are closed

Your appointment is delayed

You can't travel because of coronavirus – for example because your self-isolating

You should call the Coronavirus Immigration Help Centre to explain the situation and check what you need to do next.

Coronavirus Immigration Help Centre
Telephone: +44 (0) 800 678 1767
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

You should also explain on the form why you haven't taken the test when you apply for your visa.

You might have to take the test later.

Hi, you're welcome.

Spouse visa UK fee (cost) in 2021
Out of country application £1,523
In country application    £1,033

Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)
Out of country application £1,872
In country application £1,560

Housing Report    £80-120

Priority (premium) visa services    £573    £500-800

Lawyer fees    £285-£2,000+

Bank statements    £0-80

English language test    £150

Tuberculosis test    £65-110

Translations    cost also.

Please note the above cost are just estimates and more information can be found on the Gov.com website but its better for your fiancé to speak to an immigration lawyer in the United Kingdom.

You can only apply within the united kingdom if you are already their on a long term visa and rules are different. If your not in the UK then the rules are slightly different also when applying for the visa. Hope this helps.
