I am a US citizen considering living in Turkey . Can I get a 90 day e-visa and apply for a long term residence visa in Turkey after arriving there if I  decide I like to stay there longer ?

Thank you

ArashSahbafarf

Yes you can. Why not? After finishing this period based on your status and requirements you can apply for different kinds of visas, even if it is recommended to start the process during this 90 days period because things are not done with the same speed as before due to the pandemic. You can contact me on if you need more information.

All americans have to apply for an e-visa which is automatically 90 days. After you are in turkey you have to apply for a short term residence permit which will be anywhere from 1 year to 2 years. In order to apply for it, you will either need to already have a company willing to hire you, and have a letter from them, and other documents. 2. You will need to show that you are trying to start a business, and register a company, etc also show you have the capital to start your business, and show that you have enough money to support yourself in turkey for the length you are there, or show that you have an income from another place which you will use for living in Turkey. 3. You can get a short term residence permit as retirement which means that you can show you have enough money to survive in Turkey, or show that you have at least at minimum the minimum Turkish wage in income coming from another place showing that you could use that income to live in Turkey.

The minimum wage in Turkey is around 500 USD a month you will either need to show that you are making 500 USD in income from another place like retirement, SSD, or a job overseas, or a business, etc. Or you need to have the money in the bank account for 1-2 years which would be about 6-12 thousand USD showing that you have enough money to pay for living in Turkey.

Hi, yes you can apply for 90 days visa from US, once you are in turkey you can apply for TRC which stands for “TOURISTIC RESIDENCE CARD” which will allow you to stay in turkey for 1 year. Furthermore, this card can be renewed after 1 year time by providing the legitimate reason for further stay.
Hope I answered the question.
Regards.

Fantastic, straight to the point and easy to understand. I have another question if you don't mind ?
I lived in Thailand a few years and met my fiancé there that wants to join me in Turkey and get married there. She does not need a visa to go to Turkey for 30 day stay (Thailand citizens visa free)  Can she apply for long term residence visa after arriving in Turkey also ?

I owe you a dinner if you you can tell what to do. The way I understand it I think she can but if I can get another straight forward easy to understand explanation (whatever the rules are) would be super.

Thank you so much

karmsun

Yes you did.

Thank you very much

Hi, once your fiancé get the visa She can join you in turkey and may also apply for TRC since the rules remain the same. Being Thailand citizen your fiancé is exempt from this requirement so, once she get there she can apply directly for 1 year visa which may also renew after 1 year time. Keeping in view TRC is touristic capacity anyone from any country may avail this privilege no matter which country you belong to.
Following documents will be required for TRC:
* valid passport copy
* valid visa copy
* 4 white background pics
* Health insurance ( you may get just in 300 ₺ to 400 ₺)
* Rental agreement ( will be provided by landlord)

TOTAL cost of applying TRC 1500 ₺ in dollars 200 $

NOTE:  hope i told you everything to the best of my knowledge but you don’t need to owe me a dinner or anything else just remember be in your prayers and wishes.

Thank you Kami_cap,

Very helpful.

I am sure other questions will pop up if you don't mind ?

Thanks again

Another question I have is healthcare ???? I will be 68 when arriving there and if I understand it correctly I will not be required to get health care insurance due to high cost because of my age. What happens if I get sick or need to go to hospital ?  How will I be able to get quality care ? My fiancé in early 50's, how much will health insurance cost for her ?

I appreciate any info and guidance .
Thank you

I am in the same boat you are. I was told since we are older Americans we can use the US Medicare card and we can use the Turkish health system free with minor fees. You should get a response from Turkish people on this to very what I said.

karmsun

Medicare does not cover anything outside of the US I have been told. If you have a good Medicap insurance on top of Medicare you can get 90 day health insurance included that only covers emergencies outside the US, like a travel health insurance

atassm

All Social security recipients with Medicare have insurance supplement with it and most of the time no premium to pay. You can use emergencies anywhere in the world to get health care. I wasn't saying you should use it, I was just saying it is acceptable for the visa. Okay.

karmsun

OK, I understand.
Thank you

Hi Kami_cap,

Was just reading a post on a different expat site from an American that just got a 2 year residence visa approved. He claimed that a new requirement was having to purchase property. Have you any knowledge if that is correct ?

Thank you,
Karmsun
