Dear all. We are looking to move to cyprus and wondered if the cypriot government helped adopted children with school fees, education etc. In the UK we receive aid for my son. Anybody have any experience in this area... appreciate your help... kind regards. Kiri

Toon

you can go to state schools which are free and is easy to do with only schoolbooks and jotters to pay for.. .although lots of 2nd hand books etc are available if you ask around... .... and teach in both english and greek...  you may be able to claim child benefit here but after 31st december UK will be out of transition and will no longer be part of the EU so things may change.

Once you are working here with residency (be aware that with adoptions there may be some adoption papers apostile costs to cover) .. you will pay into the Social Insurance scheme and even if only one of you do so the whole family will benefit from GESY the cyprus NHS system so healthcare wouldnt be an issue I would suggest you speak to  the benefits office in uk see what may or may not be available to you here..

its going to be a tight time frame for you... getting residency now before dec 31st as residency confers certain EU rights and protections under the Withdrawal Agreement which may not be relevant to those who are not legally resident here after leaving.

It may be worth contacting the Citizens Service Centres here  in cyprus email   info@papd.mof.gov.cy

its in greek so use google translate

But here it is

Citizen Service Centers

Citizen Service Centers

Generally

The Citizen Service Centers (KEP), are, for Cyprus, the first implementation of the idea of "One-Stop-Shop" for citizens, that is, the provision of many public services from a single point of contact. This is an innovative step towards the creation of a modern Public Administration that operates with a focus on the citizen and is able to meet his needs, providing high quality services.

With KEP we change the way public services operate. Our goal is to move the documents and not to move the citizens from Ministry to Ministry, or from Service to Service. The Department of Public Administration and Personnel is responsible for the supervision, coordination and development of the institution of KEP.

Eleven years after the operation of the first KEP in Nicosia, the institution has evolved significantly in various fields. The network of KEP was expanded in such a way that two KEP operate in the province of Nicosia, one KEP in the provinces of Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and the free province of Famagusta as well as 2 peripherals in Polis Chrysochous and Pelendri. During the period 2011-2012, the KEP of Nicosia and Limassol were renovated, in order to create spaces that are friendly to visitors and specially designed for effective service of the public, while for the same reason the KEP Larnaca was relocated in 2012 to a new building and the KEP Nicosia in 2015, in a building with multiple service possibilities and comfortable parking spaces for all visitors.

Our last project was the establishment of a second KEP in Nicosia (KEP Nicosia 2), following a Decision of the Council of Ministers, for the establishment of a KEP in the city center. KEP Nicosia 2, operates from 5/12/2016, at 36 Archbishop Makarios Avenue. Furthermore, the Council of Ministers by Decision of the day. March 17, 2017 approved the establishment and operation within 2017 of 5 more KEP (new / second KEP in Limassol, KEP in Kolossi and conversion of 3 premises of the provincial offices of the Road Transport Department (TOM) of Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca into KEP, with priority of Nicosia), and within 2018 another KEP (conversion of a provincial TOM office in Paphos) (Total 14 KEP).

An important part in the success of a project such as the KEP is the contribution of the staff and their ability to respond positively to all the challenges presented to them. That is why the training of the staff that staffs the KEP is not limited only to the procedures of the provided services and the operation of the information systems. It extends and includes, on a systematic basis, the cultivation of other skills and competencies, such as citizen service, communication, teamwork and professional behavior. The integration of values and principles in the institution, such as consistency, responsibility, transparency and good administration has been part of the planning and identity of the institution, while it is always part of every new action and the daily operation and supervision of KEP.

However, the most important development of the institution concerns the way it operates, with the main aim of improving the quality of the services provided: the citizens should receive the same service, any KEP and visit. In the context of this goal, since 2015 the KEP implements a Quality Management System based on the ISO 9001: 2008 Standard , which concerns on the one hand the standardization of service and internal operation processes and on the other hand ensures their uniform application in all KEP.

Offered services

KEP today offers more than 70 public services, which are provided by the following Ministries / Departments / Services: Department of Population and Immigration Archive and Department of Lands and Surveys of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Health, Department of Road Transport, Ministry of Transport, Communications , Social Insurance Services and Welfare Benefits Management Service of the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance, Sponsorship and Benefits Service and IT Services Department of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Defense.

Utilizing modern information technology and telecommunications, KEP offers two types of services: (a) on-site services, such as the issuance of a hospital card and birth / death certificate, and (b) services for which applications are received, which are transmitted to the competent Departments / Services for processing and processing, such as the issuance of identity card, passport and driving license, as well as the receipt of applications for a number of sponsorships and allowances.

Opening Hours

The public service hours in all KEP are continuous from 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the afternoon, from Monday to Friday.

More information about each KEP and the services it offers can be found at the following links.

Citizens Satisfaction Survey for KEP 2017

As part of the implementation of a Quality Management System based on the ISO 9001: 2008 standard, a Citizen Satisfaction Survey is conducted every three years, in order to investigate the level of citizen satisfaction of the KEP institution as a tool to improve the services provided. The first survey was conducted in 2014 by a private consulting firm and was repeated in 2017 by the BTI in collaboration with the Statistical Service. The survey was conducted with anonymous questionnaires completed by citizens in all KEP, during the period 20/2/2017 - 5/3/2017. A sample of 2,480 questionnaires was used nationwide.
The results of the Survey are presented in detail in the following link:

good luck

NB I will see what else I can find out for you

I am told

You can claim child benefit as soon as you are resident as an EU citizen but as UK is leaving the EU from 2021, you may then require 5 years continuous residence to qualify. All children of residents are entitled to free state education. If they are moving before 2021 they will need to get their MEU1 before the end of the year although there may be some provision in place for it to be extended providing you arrive before the deadline. There is special funding from the UK government to help with residency applications for vulnerable UK citizens - details here  https://cyprus-mail.com/2020/07/29/firs … nationals/

@Toon

I'm not sure everything will go smoothly.

@KiriPegasiou yes .. what is the process

FillaMoffy

You should be very careful with this. . The fact that you are starting the adoption process does not guarantee that you will be able to retrain the child. It often happens that an adopted child is more than 1, 2 or 3 years old, which means that they have already acquired some skills, so it will be more difficult for you to correct or teach them.

I advise you to study becoming a foster parent in oregon. It will be useful for you, I guarantee you that. And in general, I respect your aspiration very much. Good luck to you!

@FillaMoffy trust me, think again. I fostered a child of my ex when he was one years old. 15 years later, I had a massive lawsuit from his mother lying that I was abusive. She has never worked a day of her life ever since she had met me. People change, usually for worse. Just remember my words for the future. Good luck to you if you decide to repeat my mistake!
