Question about applying for Mauritius passport for children

Hello,

I hope all is well. I have a question I hope can be answered.

My parents was born in Mauritius and came to the UK in the 70s. I was born in the UK and have both and British and Mauritian passport. Is it possible to pass on my Mauritian citizenship to my children, who was born in the UK too?

If so, what's the best way to go about it?

Welcome to the forum.

Perhaps contact the nearest Mauritian Embassy for information. An online check may give you information too.

You have all the info here:

http://dha.pmo.govmu.org/English/Mandat … NSHIP.aspx

unfortunately your children won't get the citizenship because they don't fall into this criterion:

BY DESCENT
A person born outside Mauritius is a citizen of Mauritius under section 20(3) and 23 of the Constitution if either of his parents is a citizen of Mauritius by birth.

i think this is a "grey" area and that they MIGHT be allowable under  the minors area.

i strongly suggest you contact the Mauritian embassy and ask them because i think you just might be ok

If we go through the terms of the Citizenship act, there's no 'grey area' here.

You cannot piggy back on your parents for citizenship if none of them were citizens of Mauritius by birth.
