Adopting a pet in Switzerland

Hello,

Are you a dog or a cat person? A pet can add life to a home and make an ideal travel companion during your expatriation in Switzerland.

However, formalities or regulations might put you off traveling with your pet making adoption a better option.

Are there any particular rules or procedures for the adoption of an animal in Switzerland?

What are the costs associated with adopting a pet in Switzerland?

Are there different procedures depending on the animal?

Are pet-sitting options available?

Have you ever adopted a pet in Switzerland? Is he or she still with you today?

Thank you in advance for your feedback,

Loïc

Hi Loic
We adopted a cat from the local vet here in Switzerland.
No formalities because they knew us through treating the cat who emigrated with us and therefore knew we would give him a good home. By the way, bringing our cat from the UK was easy - all we needed was a Pet Passport from the vet at home.
We still have our Swiss cat, who is now the boss!
I would suggest talking to your local vets about adopting an animal as there are always photos of cats needing homes on their notice board here...
At first he was a sad, terrified and depressed little creature but it was wonderful to see him gain confidence and settle into the very happy little personality who now bosses us about!
Good luck!
