Adopting a pet in Ireland

Hello,

Are you a dog or a cat person? A pet can add life to a home and make an ideal travel companion during your expatriation in Ireland.

However, formalities or regulations might put you off traveling with your pet making adoption a better option.

Are there any particular rules or procedures for the adoption of an animal in Ireland?

What are the costs associated with adopting a pet in Ireland?

Are there different procedures depending on the animal?

Are pet-sitting options available?

Have you ever adopted a pet in Ireland? Is he or she still with you today?

Thank you in advance for your feedback,

Loïc

Hi we have adopted two cats in Galway since we relocated form London in 2001.  There is an organisation called GSPCA (Galway) DSPCA (Dublin) they take in stray and unwanted cats, kittens, dogs and puppies and try to rehome them.  We went to the GSPCA and the procedure was simple.  Your register your interest in adopting.  you call to the shop and pick your animal.  The GSPCA will then do a home visit to make sure your house is suitable.  Once the agree all is OK, you can then pick up your chose animal.  They will have been chipped, neutered and vaccinated by the GSPCA.  You need to pay a small fee, I think ours was €60 (cant be sure of that) but is was not a hugh amount.  Then you take your pet home and live happily ever after.  Dont know how to attach a picture

I believe there is a similar process for Dogs/Puppies
