I agree, not bad as tourist articles go.  I did wince at the "faceless dolls" reference.   
Muñecas Limé used to be an absolute must-buy for tourists back in the '70s and '80s.  There was and still is tons of imitations and I'd bet the imitations far outnumber the originals these days.

Yes, very good, and perfect for those people that like to explore cities, the only thing the reporter get confused and said Atlantic instead of Caribbean sea.

Certainly not. I think many people in N. America have limited knowledge of Dom Rep, so news reports have a more pronounced impact with them. And a lot of people pay no attention to actual facts, only to serve the biases they may have.  Anyway, I hope they churn out a few more positive DR stories!

It seems lot of people live in a bubble..."if nothing bad happens to them it's not happening". People in the US that are in my circle hear about one crime in DR and talk about how scary it is,  but never seem to acknowledge the over whelming amount of crimes happening all over the US and right on their local news and in their local newspaper everyday...I don't get it. Most people with this mindset I've talked to have never even been to DR....I hope the DR will continue to get good press and put this behind them.

That tells you so much.

Countries like DR are talked about because what has been seen on Fox News (and other Murdoch type outlets) reporting paid for articles by a few wanting their moment in the spotlight.

DR had received about 3 million American tourists annually before the false news. Yet those 200 million non passport holders were absorbing the falsities and spinning it around and putting others off visiting.

There is so much positive news on DR tourism in recent months with much in-flowing investment that assures me of the future which should get back to normal by next Easter.

But for sure the country(DR) needs to broaden it's appeal and not bank on just American tourist growth which have proven to be fickle....and now there is a new horizon which may pose real threats to worldly Americans wishing to travel the globe and come to DR.

Good point about diversifying our appeal!

I think they're trying to mount a campaign.....

What makes you think the govt had anything to do with Mariah visiting?

I've read nothing to support that.  Pretty sure the govt or politicians  would actually  be all over this.  Interesting though.

I agree on the 3 positive stories. It's all good.  But if govt is.sponsoring in any way Mariah being here every one of those attention seeking idiots would be all over it.  They would photo opp the hell out of it.
