Rio de Janeiro PF Background Check for Naturalization

Dear Board Members,

It is my understanding that I need to have a Brazilian Background Check/Police Certificate to get naturalized in Brazil.

1. Where do I get it in Rio de Janeiro?

2. How long does it take?

Thank you

Michael

1. You need criminal background reports for state and federal in Brazil.

Federal:

State: Go to the FORUM close to where you live to get the "Certidão Negativa."

2. Your Germany criminal background check:

The service offered by a company here has a 5-day turn around like an FBI channeler in the US.
it uses the EU program called European Criminal Records Information System (ECRIS) or Bundeszentralregister. It will cost you 75euros.

Enjoy fulfilling the requirements! :D

EU is not the problem.

Brazil, State and Federal. What are the timelines? How long does it take? 1 week? 2 Weeks? 1 month?  2Months?

All up to the work load of MJ and holidays.

The Federal document can be requested online, and printed off the same day.

Unfortunately, it appears that foreigners in Rio need to go to the IIFP in person to make the request:

Brazilians who have ID cards (RG) issued by the State of Rio can request the document online at the DETRAN-RJ site.  It probably won't accept your CRNM number, but you can give it a try.  Tick the box labeled "IIFP".

If that doesn't work, go to the IIFP on Frei Caneca as soon as they open.  After that, it's as Texanbrazil says.  Good luck!

Thank you. I printed federal already.

Do you have a direct link for the RJ state one?

found it

BTW, if you don't already have Sworn Translations of your German documents, you're going to need them.  I've had good experiences with www.fidelity.com.br .  In Rio, it should also be easy to find a local Sworn Translator by Googling "Tradução Juramentada", if you prefer.
After your Request for Naturalization is submitted,  all you can do is wait and be patient.   I submitted mine in April 2019, and the Polícia Federal only visited last week to verify my address.   They still haven't forwarded my application to Brasília, and it can only be tracked online after they do that.

CRNM number. I don't have this. I only have a RNE card. This is the same?

Yes. The new name of the CIE/RNE is CRNM - Carteira de Registro Nacional Migratório.  Same thing.  Your current card and number are still valid.

Oh wow. I was told the PF does not do visits anymore.

They don't for permanent residency;  they do for naturalization.
