I understand all expats with kids have a driver or two. Do they hire him from an agency that supplies the vehicles as well, or does the expat purchase the car and simply hire a driver to drive that car, as well as ensure there is sufficient insurance?

All new to me... thanks!

Nope nobody supplies vehicles for your personal use here. You buy a car and then you can look for a driver. Or else, you can hire a cab on hourly basis everyday, but that's feasible only for a short stay.

Very true. either you buy a car and get a driver to drive you around or you may hire a car from any local agency as per your need. they provide it by hour to hour basis[there is minimum hours to be paid that is 4 hours as far as Jaipur is Matter].

There are taxi operators who supply vehicle and driver on monthly basis as well subject to fixing the max. Kms. and duty hrs. of driver. It will be cheaper if you are here for a short stay of 6 months or so that you need not bother about maintenance, fuel and disposal of vehicle if you buy one. For longer stay consider buying a vehicle and hire a driver on monthly basis.
