I'm wondering if these work well if I'd move to Py with a lot of 110-volt appliances? Has anyone had any experience with the converters?

muffiemae, I don't know a lot about converters and ziltz experience in them.
Question, are your electrical appliances really that much worth to bring along? I bet you, you'll be able to buy any normal computer, cel-phone, TV and any other generally used electrical appliance for the same price that it will cost you getting them here (if not cheaper) in CDE (Cuidad del Este) But that's my opinion, and my opinion is worth ziltz.

Yes, I've certainly thought of that option. I wouldn't bring any larger appliances, like freezers, refrigerators, microwaves, or even smaller things like blenders, etc., but I have numerous smaller electrical things that I might want to bring and use if it would be practical.

I used transformers back in the 90's when I lived in Germany, which has more or less the same power scheme as PY.  I used them for a US microwave, tv and stereo system I thought I couldn't part with.  Bought the transformers in Germany and recall they were very heavy (the one for the countertop microwave was heavier than the microwave) and had an annoying humming sound when used.  But they lasted the 4 years I used them with no problems.  They were also expensive, I remember thinking if I had known that they cost that much I would of just ditched the US items before I moved and bought European stuff.

muffiemae, if you want want to bring is high-quality power tools, THEN BRING THEM, buy your volt converter in the US too so as to be sure of its quality. You will never regret it.Tools, tools tools, you can never bring enough, I'm not talking some sensitive electronic thing that when it breaks you will have no hope of repairing it here, but TOOLS. Still using all the Makita tools we brought when we came 15 years ago.Using my 3'd local bought drill at the moment...

I brought an ac converter with me that i bought at a radio shack.  I only use it for my electric shaver and it works fine.  I recommend bringing a laptop with you.  I bought mine from tigerdirect.com for under $500.  can't be beat.  and I don't trust ciudad del este.
