Second hand car adviser / checker / mechanic?

Not sure what they are actually called, but does anyone know of an individual (like car mechanic) in/near Stockholm who offers the service of finding a good (uncrashed) second-hand car. Someone you either give them the list of cars you are interested in, or give them your parameters and they then search and check the cars out, and advise which is best (if any)?

Hello welcome to the forum :)

You need to know little bit Swedish or find someone who knows Swedish to assist you.

1. Go to this site and find a suitable car for you. https://www.blocket.se/stockholm/bilar? … mp;cg=1020

2. Check all the facts of the car from this site, it costs some bucks.  https://www.carfax.se/kontrollera-bil

3. Double check important bureaucratic facts from the government website https://transportstyrelsen.se/en/road/Vehicles/

4. Finally test drive the vehicle to this place (You often have to book a time in advance) They will give you a real professional vehicle diagnosis and it costs too but they are also one of the organisations which have the right to do compulsory annual fitness check of vehicles (they had the monopoly of this field before) which also means you have a good chance to get through the following fitness check if they will give you a positive diagnosis.   https://www.bilprovningen.se/vara-tjans … agnos.html

If you go to a car dealer or manage to find a wannabe vehicle purchasing consultant it can go in both ways. All the best!

Its actually very easy to get a second hand car in Sweden, if you have a swedish driving license. It hardly takes 5 mins to get the transaction done.

Links given by Finnbo are really good ones. I'll supply one more.

Feed in the registration number and see useful info about the car and its history.

Same can be done with app "mina fordon" by transportstyrelsen. I generally use the app.

But what comes next is you have to be really careful about as well.

1. Make sure you don't misplace your registration papers. If anyone else have them they can misuse your papers and sell the car.
2. Make sure you don't miss paying the yearly tax, congestion tax/toll tax and insurance bills. Newbies have to pay more on insurance.
3. Check your inspection dates for car, make sure you take the car for servicing and get the "kontrol" checks done in time.

For car dealers, I would suggest to go to Riddermark Bil. It's quite big chain for buy/selling second hand cars. They have a comprehensive checklist and some warranties also. You can filter out cars of your choice from their website. Bargaining can be done also but only if you buy on the spot.
