Prescriptions

How difficult, or simple, will it be to refill my prescription pain meds in Quito?  Do I just need my prescription bottles, my medical history, or an appointment with a local physician for my Oxycontin and 10/325 Percoset medications? Are these meds easily found and purchased, or will I face a lot of red tape and delay? I will come into country with about 10 days remaining supply from my last 30 day prescription refill (I've been on the same meds for almost 10 years).

Any suggestion on an English speaking Internal Medicine physician in Quito, or a good pharmacist and shop?  Thank you for any information you can supply.

You will need to see a DR / specialist who will decide what medication you should have. Your old bottles / prescriptions / medical history will be mostly irrelevant as it will depend what the DR you see thinks.

Be warned Ecuador does not prescribe painkillers ANYWHERE near the levels of the US. For what you would get strong painkillers for in the US, in ecuador you will given paracetamol / tylenol and told to rest.

Obviously it does depend on condition you have. A stronger option they do use here is tramadol (not in the same league as the meds you listed though).

Thank you for helping me navigate your website. I greatly appreciate having such a resource available to me before I leave the USA.
