    Manila

2. Currency:
     Peso

3. National symbols: 
a. Gem: Pearl
b. Tree: Narra
c. Bird:  Philippine eagle
d. National hero: Jose Rizal
e. Flower: Sampaguita (wonderful aroma)
f. Sport:  Arnis (martial arts)
   There are many more that are unofficial like the national animal, the carabao

4. Languages: 
a. There are two official languages.
    Tagalog (Filipino) and English . 
b. Indigenous languages include:
   Albay Bicol
   Ilocano
   Hiligaynon
   Pangasinan
   Maguindanao
   Maranao
   Kinaray-a
   Waray-Waray
   Tagalog
   Kapampangan
   Bicol
   Tausug
c. There are more than a 100 languages and dialects spoken in the Philippines across over
    7100 islands.

    Maka-Diyos, Maka-Tao, Makakalikasan at Makabansa (members can look up the translation)

Many thanks to  my asawa who did most of the work here, and yes we cheated with the I-pad.  It was still fun.

From a different perspective though relevant to the topic. Not very well as things change regularly and what one thought he knew can be swept away with the stroke of a pen and at times here say. TeeJay nailed your questions though apart from #6 and I would say frustrating.
