Foreigner Opening a Bank Account

I have received my citizenship last year and will be heading through to Valletta next month to hopefully get my EU passport. I've never been to Malta - but my grandfather/great-grandparents were all born there and via them, managed to become a citizen

My question is regarding opening a bank account and quick requirements on Google :

1.ID (e.g. passport & e-Residence card)
2. Address proof (utility bill, bank statement, ID card with your address, etc.)
3. Employment contract (can be from a non-Maltese company) or other proof of income.

Do I need to live in Malta ? Proof of residence in another country, won't count ?

Even those who live in Malta find it exceedingly difficult to open a bank account, I would not bother if I did not live here already - and even then many opt to not bother either and instead use foreign banks
