The first steb would be to read something about Bulgaria. 

The second wil be to come here for an excursion, 5-6 days will be enough.

Health insurance has different approaches, but using the standard - visiting an insurance company like UNIQA, ot Groupama, or Allianz will be sufficeint. In case of necessity they will cover the expences.

Good place to stay would be Plovdiv.


If you need a sea resort, then probably Sozopol, Pomorie, Bourgas, Varna,








it is all up to your taste. Options are numerous.

So research + excursion is a good start.

I am living in Varna. I came here in October 2011.i did know anything about Bulgaria.
I rented an apartment, then I went to the immigration and I got my ID card for 5 years.
I am from Germany. With my German passport I went to the fibank and opened an account, no problem.
I canceled my health insurance in Germany, and I got now the Bulgarian  health insurance. I pay every three month 67 Leva.
I have a good GP who speaks fantastic English. You need a referral from your GP for an expert.
Even you go  privat, you will pay between 30 and 50 Leva.
First rent an apartment, before you want to buy. There are some fox around who wants to take more money as usual.
Varna is beautiful and not so cold in winter and never boring.
The prices are a little higher, because there are many tourists in summertime.
