Best cities for retirement in South Korea

Hello everyone,

An increasing amount of people want to spend their retirement abroad. Would you consider giving a few tips to those looking into South Korea for their retirement?

What are the most attractive cities for retirees in South Korea?

Why are these the best cities in South Korea for retirement (quality of life, cost of living, climate, health, security, etc.)?

Are there any specific areas in South Korea where there are special retirement schemes or retirement-friendly residential areas?

Are there any activities suitable for retirees in South Korea?

Do you have any tips on where to start looking or how to choose a suitable city for one's retirement in South Korea?

If you have, yourself, chosen to spend your retirement abroad, please tell us what city you have chosen and why?

Please share your experience.

South Korea is not an ideal retirement destination for Westerners. The country welcomes foreign contract workers while they remain useful but when they reach retirement age they are surplus to requirements.

It is extremely difficult for a Westerner to obtain the legal right to remain indefinitely in South Korea - unless he/she is married to a Korean.

Koreans are polite to foreigners but they remain 'foreign' forever - regardless of how well they master the language. It is (I respectfully submit) impossible for a Westerner to fully integrate into Korean society. I would love to be proved wrong.
