Best cities for retirement in Oman

Hello everyone,

An increasing amount of people want to spend their retirement abroad. Would you consider giving a few tips to those looking into Oman for their retirement?

What are the most attractive cities for retirees in Oman?

Why are these the best cities in Oman for retirement (quality of life, cost of living, climate, health, security, etc.)?

Are there any specific areas in Oman where there are special retirement schemes or retirement-friendly residential areas?

Are there any activities suitable for retirees in Oman?

Do you have any tips on where to start looking or how to choose a suitable city for one's retirement in Oman?

If you have, yourself, chosen to spend your retirement abroad, please tell us what city you have chosen and why?

Please share your experience.

Property is very expensive here.  We have a four bedroom four reception room house in Oxfordshire, and it is worth less than a two bedroom apartment in the Wave or Sifa.  Also health insurance is prohibitive.
Very sad as we might have thought about retirement here.

Better you retirement life in Kerala, India.  Retirement house will take care of full medical care, personal care and good living environment.

Oman is still developing so new policies from the Govt keeps popping out every other month. Not sure what Oman will be after the current King Qaboos. Retirement plans should be carefully planned after a lot of research :-)

For an expatriate, considering retirement in Oman is likely to be quite a gamble. If one has a very comfortable budget and authority to have long-term residency or citizenship, then go for it.

Also health insurance could be a serious added expense.  Buying property. Here is exceedingly expensive.  More than the South of England. . Oman could make more money if they considered seriously opening up the housing market for everyone. So many homes are lying empty. Also what happens in old age——there are no old peoples homes or nursing homes.
