having just arrived by my eighth different route from the UK, i think i may have cracked it. from my local airport to Amsterdam, onto Panama. Both KLM. civilised times, 90 minutes connection.
Look at a globe not a map, to get a true perspective.. overnight in panama, at a half USA price hotel, (basic, large room, clean) with the best pickup bus service i have ever encountered. go to a designated tour desk on the way to the exit, wait a few minutes for other arrivals, then escorted to the minibus.
luggage checked right through to belize, next morning mid morning flight to Belize city on COPA.
the total flight time less than many alternatives. certainly the most relaxed schedule I have had. and very competitive price. next time , a couple of nights in Panama to see the Canal.
Flights from europe
we always found the simplest journeys from the UK were direct to Cancun and we bussed down from there, didn't need the overnight in the US and on a couple of times the timings were so convenient we didn't need an overnight in Cancun either.
On one occaision we got a last minute vacation deal from a major uk travel company which included London - Cancun return direct flights plus the first and last nights of a fourteen night package in a very nice Cancun hotel. There was a special low rate offered at the hotel for the 12 nights in the middle which we did not take up but got a fantastic price and comfortable trip. Have not needed the UK route for a few years now so am no longer up to date on best options.

We normally do direct flights to cancun which is about 9-10hours stay the night then bus it across to Belize. With two small children this is the best we've found working for us. But would like to give the Panama route a go. Do you book it directly with Klm or through another site?

coupled with CUN- BZE same day on Tropic Air, cancun is still the quickest , though not the cheapest.. I have become allergic to antisocial times, and KLM times are usually convenient. Book direct with KLM, (join frequent flyer programme for discount on extras). the COPA flight to Belize City is twice weekly, recently Tuesday and Friday, so KLM flights have to fit their schedule. two night stopovers require telephone booking. websites are usually cheaper, but can take three days to arrive.happy travelling!!
