Music day in Hungary

Hello everyone,

Music day will be celebrated this 21st of June across the world. It is an opportunity for new expatriates and expats-to-be to discover and get excited about new ways of celebrating this special day in Hungary. Would you be able to answer a few questions to make sure no one misses out on the best events?

Is Music day popular in Hungary?

Tell us about how it is usually celebrated? What activities are usually organised?

Are there traditional activities on Music day (street concerts, festivals etc.)?

Is there a not-to-be-missed event or a place-to-be on Music day?

What do you have planned for this 21st of June?

Please share your experience,

Priscilla

Maybe  there's enough music here already.

I'm seeing this said all over Europe. I've never heard of this before.

Too much music or Make Music Day?

Some music here, I think they can keep it......like that rubbish they play on violins in restaurants.  They can keep it!

I've seen a few bands here - Genesis, Omega (several times), Roger Water's The Wall etc.

I'm going to see some oldie but goldie metal bands in November.

From my experience, Hungarians love music. It seems every other Hungarian I meet plays some musical instrument well. They have musical festivals all over the country, especially in the summer. So I see no reason why they need to participate in a "world wide" event -- it might actually be counter productive and dilute the local music scene.

Side note: Yes, there is a lot of really bad "elevator" music also played here. One must be selective in their venues. :)
