Long-term renting : negotiating

Hi everyone,

Forgive the naivety of this question, but :

In general, do people negotiate rents with landlords in Cyprus?

I am British; ideally, I'd like to have a British landlord. I have read that there are
some apartments empty in Paphos / Peyia as some owners are rental-averse,
having been burned in the past by tenants refusing to vacate.

In other words, do I have 'wiggle room' to negotiate rental terms if the landlord likes us?
We are a quiet family, 2 adults and a 3 year old, non-smokers & no pet.

There is always wriggle room if a tenant is attractive to a landlord.. they usually like to keep things simple but want protection from the usual tenants issues.. most want good tenants and no issues.  However accom in peyia is at premium right now....

Is this seasonal, or some other factor?

I used Lorraine at https://www.horizonpropertyshop.com/ as an agent there was no negotiation but she's reliable

it always gets more expensive in the season but the trend currently overall is that the rents are going up quite considerably....
its why we fixed our rent for five years

One tip  - never tell your agent your budget ... ever - they will push you towards property at that level and above to maximise their commissions from the owner.... try to keep them to your own specification and be rigid with it...

Saddens me when I see posted under Apartments Wanted
on these kind of sites : " Budget 600 but willing to go to 800
for the right place". We know where that's heading...

Suggest to you reading Chris Voss' book "Never Split the Difference".
Things in that I've never seen before. Trust me on this one.
