Student visa for learning portuguese

Does anyone know if you are granted a student visa if you are enrolled in a portuguese class while in brazil?

Hi, Ishmell,

Yes, you can obtain a student visa if you are enrolled in any Portuguese Language class for foreigners that has a sufficient number of hours of instruction, and is approved by the Federal Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC).  That goes for courses offered by most public universities, so pick a city with a public university- virtually all state capitals, and some other cities in the larger states - and start contacting schools.

A student visa will NOT permit you to work for pay, so you'll need to have enough saved to support yourself during the course.

If your interest is in Cape Verde, as your profile shows, be aware that the official Portuguese there is the European variant, not the Brazilian one, and that the common spoken language, Cape Verdean Creole, is not mutually intelligible with Portuguese.   You may want to explore educational opportunities in Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, rather than anywhere in Brazil.
