It's now pretty safe to say Pak Jokowi, subject to any possible constitutional court challenges, is in office for the next five years.

A great place not to be on May 22

Given the police have arrested or killed a lot of terrorist suspects in the last few weeks, it's very possible the police are correct in their actions, and the reasons for them.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 32 thousand police and military personnel will be stationed to secure the General Elections Commission (KPU) building prior to the commission's official declaration of manual vote-recapitulation results of the recent elections on May 22.

The deployment of security apparatus to protect the KPU building will be done two days prior to its announcement of the official results of the recent parliamentary and presidential elections, the National Police spokesman, Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo informed journalists here on Monday.

The mass deployment of personnel is a precautionary measure against attacks by terrorists looking to utilize the opportune moment of the KPU's official announcement on the election results, as the police had received information of the planned attacks, he explained.

For those not aware, Pancasila and UUD 1945 are the main pillars of Indonesian society, and feverishly guarded as attacking them is seen as an attack on Indonesia.

I'm pretty sure the minister's reminder is directly related to the election, thus valid on this thread.

https://en.antaranews.com/news/125380/m … l-ideology

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu has appealed to heads of regional offices of the Defense Ministry to always give priority to upholding the state ideology of Pancasila and guarding against possible threats to it.

"The nation faces three threats in the form of real threats, not yet real, as well as that arising from the mindset and of the changing ideology," Defense Minister Ryacudu stated while issuing directives to the heads of regional offices of the Ministry of Defense on Monday.

In his brief, Minister Ryacudu highlighted that the state ideology of Pancasila is the fundamental basis of the nation's unifying power to protect the Unitary State of Indonesia from wide-ranging and persistent challenges and threats.

The minister pointed out that the threat of a specific mindset or ideology can be perpetrated via a small academic scope, including schools and universities.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prabowo Subianto's running-mate Sandiaga Uno claims he has gathered enough evidence of electoral fraud and manipulation in the 2019 general elections after visiting numerous Indonesian provinces for the past 10 days.

“I was suddenly asked by Pak Prabowo to report the findings I found in my 10-day visit to a number of volunteers and coalition parties,” said Sandiaga Uno in South Jakarta on Monday.

As previously reported, the claimed, “evidentiary items” collected by Sandiaga Uno will be presented in a press conference on electoral fraud that will be held today by Prabowo's campaign team BPN at the Hotel Grand Sahid Jaya in Central Jakarta.

That means there is likely to be a challenge to the election results in the constitutional court, but hopefully no violence.

Hoax anything concerning the elections is a very bad idea - My advice would have to be taking great care what you believe from social media, and NEVER spreading it as you could end up in trouble if it does turn out to be false.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Java Regional Police are investigating a hoax saying that that a polling committee (KPPS) officer in Bandung had died from poisoning.

The lie was first posted on Facebook by Doddy Fajar and on Twitter by @5thsekali account. The posts claimed that a KPPS officer named Sita Fitriati had died because she was poisoned and that chemicals containing dangerous toxins were found in her body.

The hoax has since gone viral in social media.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate number 02 Prabowo Subianto has taken a stand on the result of the 2019 general election that he deemed being marred by electoral frauds.

“I will deny deceptive election results,” said Prabowo during his speech in the event of exposing electoral fraud held by the Prabowo - Sandiaga campaign team (BPN) in Grand Sahid Hotel, Tuesday, May 14.

The former Army general underlined that he and Sandiaga did not seek personal ambition–claiming that he initially planned to retire. However, the plan vanished after he traveled across the country and met the people.

Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto in the event dubbed as the “national symposium on the 2019 electoral fraud” declared that he will reject the vote recapitulation result and calls for people to do the same.

“I am determined to reject the foul general elections result,” said Prabowo at the event held in Grand Sahid Hotel in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

In his speech, Prabowo says that he has felt and holds pieces of evidence on what he calls as an act of “democratic rape” felt by him and his supporters. He also boldly claims to have won the people's mandate.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The campaign team for Jokowi – Ma'ruf Amin deemed the recent event held by Prabowo Subianto's BPN team at Hotel Sahid Jakarta is unwittingly exposing BPN's own fraudulent behavior in the Indonesia election.

“That agenda they held is exposing their own fraudulent behavior,” said Arya Sinulingga, the Jokowi – Ma'ruf Amin national campaign team (TKN) spokesman on Tuesday.

Arya talked about one of the many elements seen by the Prabowo camp as fraudulent has actually happened at the poll stations (TPS) where Prabowo – Sandiaga mostly won. The notable example is TPS 13 Nanggerang, Sukabumi that was deemed as a fictional poll station since many people there share similar birth dates.

Named suspect for treason is bad, arrested for treason is worse

Jakarta. Political activist Eggi Sudjana was arrested for treason while being interrogated by the Jakarta Police on Tuesday morning.

The National Mandate Party (PAN) politician, who is a member of the campaign team of presidential candidate pair Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno, was named a treason suspect on May 8 over comments he made to the camp's supporters outside the former Army general's home in South Jakarta on election day.

"I heard just now, God willing, that after 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. it will be officially announced whether it is true that there had been serious fraud [in the election]. Therefore, according to the analysis by one of our leaders, professor doctor Amien Rais, we must launch people power. Agree? Are you brave enough [to do it]? If we engage in people power, we no longer need to follow [legal] steps because it will be the people exercising their sovereignty! Maybe this is God's way of speeding up Prabowo's inauguration. There is no need to wait until Oct. 20 [when the president will be inaugurated]," Eggi reportedly said at the time.

Assuming there were no massive irregularities in the incumbent's favour, we can pretty much say Pak Jokowi has won the election.

The opposition should now, if they have evidence of fraud that would change the result, prepare to mount a case at the constitutional court.

There are some strange statements, this report claiming Pak Prabowo wrote a letter to the press suggesting his supports should not pay taxes unless he becomes president.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Prabowo - Sandiaga campaign team (BPN) member of the advisory board, Fadli Zon, said that his party would not challenge the result of the 2019 presidential election to the Constitutional Court (MK). Fadli opined that the court could not resolve electoral problems.

“It's highly possible that BPN will not file a report to MK because we have taken the path back in 2014. And we see that MK is useless in handling issues of the presidential election. The court is meaningless,” said Fadli in the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 15.

Fadli explained that in the 2014 presidential election, Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Hatta Rajasa filed a lawsuit to the MK. However, the process was fruitless and he deemed it a waste of time.

“Marathon trials were held at that time but no evidence was opened. It had even been legalized, stamped,” said Gerindra party deputy head, accusing MK of practicing politics.

This doesn't sound like a recipe for a mess, does it?
5,000 of one group meet several thousand of another, and tempers could easily flare up.
Add the known attempts to set up terrorist attacks (The police have stopped a few), and I would have to very strongly suggest avoiding that area for the next week or so.

Jakarta. A group of former Reformasi activists are planning to send a 5,000-strong crowd to the General Elections Commission headquarters in Central Jakarta on May 21 to guard it before the announcement of the official election result the next day.

The former student activists said they want to protect the KPU from being stormed by supporters of presidential challenger Prabowo Subianto, who have been throwing accusations of vote-rigging against the KPU and their rival camp, led by incumbent president Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.

Prabowo himself said on Tuesday that he will reject fraudulent election result from the KPU.

"We will send 5,000 people to the KPU to give them moral support. The KPU is an instrument of democracy, a direct result of Reformasi," said Wahab Talaohu, a spokesman for the group, who calls themselves the National Gathering of '98 Activists (RNA 98), on Tuesday.

The activist group met at Pondok Ranggon cemetery in East Jakarta on Tuesday to pay tribute to the victims of the May 1998 riots in Jakarta. More than one hundred of them are buried in unmarked graves in the cemetery.

IY was arrested in her house in Grand Residence City, Bekasi, West Java. Tempo observed the two women arrived in the building of Criminal Investigation Directorate of Jakarta Metro Police at around 6.05 p.m.

Both seemed to be depressed while landed in the police headquarter. One woman donned a pink-colored jacket, black veil, face mask, and jeans while carrying a red backpack, and the other wore a black jacket and a blue veil.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 212 alumni brotherhood or PA 212 planned to hold mass iftar in front of the Election Commission (KPU) office on May 21 and 22, demanding the election organizer stop the announcement of the vote recapitulation result.

“[We are] demanding KPU stop the announcement because it will surely announce the winning of candidate number 01 (Jokowi - Ma'ruf Amin) who is strongly suspected to practice systematic fraud,” said PA 212 spokesman Novel Bamukmin when contacted on Thursday, May 16.

They also urged KPU disqualify the incumbent candidate after the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) found KPU conducted wrong deeds related to the election.

Novel said that several figures from PA 212 would attend the event yet he could not detail the names. “I haven't heard information on who will present,” he added.

Treason allegations are being levelled at at least three people, perhaps more as time goes on.

Jakarta. Investigators are currently studying a police report containing treason allegations against prominent figures Amien Rais, Rizieq Shihab and Bachtiar Nasir.

Jakarta Police spokesman Chief Comr. Argo Yuwono said Dewi Ambarwati Tanjung, an Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician, reported the three individuals to police on Tuesday, assisted by her lawyers.

The case involves alleged calls for mass action against the government by supporters of Prabowo Subianto if the result of the April 17 simultaneous presential and legislative elections, which the General Elections Commission (KPU) is due to announce on May 22, are not in his favor.

The idea of mass action was first raised on March 31 by Amien Rais, founder of the National Mandate Party (PAN), which forms part of the coalition supporting Prabowo and his running mate Sandiaga Uno.

One party says it will pull out of the counting process

https://www.thejakartapost.com/news/201 … esses.html

Commissioner of the General Elections Commission, Evi Novida Ginting, said the official vote counting process would still be legitimate, although the Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno campaign team said that it would pull out their witnesses from the central KPU office and in regencies and cities. “With or without witnesses, the tabulation plenary [meetings] are still running and they are still valid as long as the Elections Supervisory Agency [Bawaslu] oversees the process,” Evi said on Wednesday. Evi said official tabulation plenaries in regencies and cities were an open forum to verify and officiate vote count results from polling stations, and therefore the KPU invited witnesses from candidates and political parties. However, it would not be a problem if they did not come.

The constitutional court has offered comment.

The comments regarding UUD 1945 are absolutely correct. That document (Something I'd read and understand) very clearly states the power and position of the constitutional court, something that is at the very heart of Indonesia.

As background - If you reject the constitutional court, you're effectively rejecting UUD 1945 - That would be a very bold move, and one that is very likely to be resisted vigorously by a lot of people.

https://jakartaglobe.id/context/bring-f … onal-court

Jakarta. Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto's relentless claims of electoral fraud and political bias have the Constitutional Court uneasy, raising concern that the former Army general is working actively to undermine Indonesia's established system of democracy.

The Constitutional Court issued a statement on Thursday dismissing any notion that doubts the court's impartiality, following a remark by the Prabowo camp dismissing the court as "useless" for resolving election disputes.

Indonesia's 1945 Constitution states that the Constitutional Court is the only institution with the authority to decide disputes involving election results.

"The judiciary in the Constitutional Court is open to the public. The process is transparent. The public can always monitor it," court spokesman Fajar Laksono said in a statement.

He added that it was up to the candidates to bring their election disputes to the court.

"So what is needed, is convincing argumentation, witnesses, evidence; not mere claims or assumptions," he said.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police appealed to the public to refrain from staging a rally on May 22 following possible threats of terror attacks that day. The General Elections Commission (KPU) will announce the results of vote recapitulation of the 2019 presidential election on May 22.

“[We ask] the public to not hold a demonstration due to a potential terror act,” said National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Mohammad Iqbal in his office, Friday, May 17.

Iqbal said that the appeal was based on confessions made by suspected terrorists recently arrested by the police. According to him, they eyed the May 22 momentum to detonate a bomb amid the crowd.

On a video displayed by the police, one suspected terrorist identified as EY admitted he would place a bomb in the crowd on that day.

“We will plant the bomb and detonate it using a remote control, targeting election participants, security officers,” said EY.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesman for the country's conservative Islamic group 212 alumni brotherhood (PA 212) Novel Bamukmin claims their upcoming mass-rally dubbed “Ifthor Akbar 212” will be led by presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto.

This rally plans to be held on May 21-22 will occupy the front of the General Elections Commission (KPU) headquarters.

“[Prabowo's] people will participate, while he, himself will lead the rally,” said Novel Bamukmin on Friday, May 17.

Asked about the number of participants, Novel is yet able to provide a number but assures that there will be many from Prabowo – Sandiaga Uno coalition party members and their campaign team BPN.

According to Novel, the Ifthor Akbar 212 demands the KPU to cancel announcing the result of the presidential election's final vote recapitulation.

“Because it can be guaranteed that they will announce the victory of the 01 candidates (Jokowi – Ma'ruf Amin). It is strongly suspected that [that candidate] has systematically rigged the election,” Novel accused.

Don't start a 'people power' movement to usurp the presidency - MUI

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ulema (Islamic Scholar) Council (MUI) has urged the country's Muslims not to start a "people power" movement and suggested that they, instead, file a legal suit with the Constitutional Court (MK) if they discover alleged fraud during the 2019 general elections.

For the sake of the unity and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), the community must not join the "people power" movement, KH Abdullah Jaidi, MUI's chairman in charge of education and regeneration, said here on Friday.

"The community should not be provoked to join the people power movement because it could threaten the sovereignty and integrity of NKRI," he told the press.

The MK has the authority to deal with conflicts arising from the general elections and the country's Muslims must abide by the existing law, he said.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta on Friday (17/5) reminded its citizens to avoid locations of demonstrations and political parades ahead of the announcement of the results of the general election on May 22.

"Avoid areas where demonstrations or political rallies are occurring and exercise caution if within the vicinity of any large gathering," said a statement through the website of the US Embassy in Jakarta on Friday.

US citizens have also been asked to keep abreast of media coverage of local events, be aware of their surroundings, and practice personal security awareness at all times.

This report suggests there will be election day violence. I have heard of  some 'interesting' opinions stating the elections are anti-Islam because Jokowi won by cheating, that being a seemingly acceptable reason for extreme violence, but without offer of evidence to back up the claims.

The government is anticipating potential trouble ahead of the wrap-up of the official vote tally on May 22, amid reports that supporters of losing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto are planning to take to the streets to challenge the election result. Security officials fear street protests may descend into violence after the discovery of an apparent plot by a local terrorist cell linked to the Islamic State (IS) movement to exploit the situation with an attack, even though analysts have cast doubt on such a scenario materializing. The National Police have advised the public not to join the planned rally — set to be held at the General Elections Commission (KPU) headquarters in Jakarta — for security reasons, including the possible terrorist attack.
