RESIDENCE PERMIT ASKING FOR ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS

I am just curious what will happen.

My boyfriend and I applied last March 3 and We got an email from Migration Sverket last April 1st to give additional documents but my boyfriend failed to do so because the email went directly to his trash without notification so he failed to reply. Ever since that, we were constantly reaching the Migration Sverket's email address. They informed my boyfriend yesterday, 16th of April 2019 that they have sent it through the mailbox.

Are we too careless?
Is immigration too strict and may make that incident a ground for rejecting our application?
What is the next step?

Please RTFM and you'll be wiser. One easier way could be just to visit immigrationsverket.
Best way of staying out of trouble is to investigate the law.
