I am a new member who wants to invest in a property in Bulgaria. I would like to know opinion from people who live in Bulgaria whether they would say this country is corrupt. Please give honest opinion and any experience you may have.

hello,
corruption is in every country, depends on how deep you research,
in england you have it with members of parliment.
there are good and bad in every country,
i think maybe you should go out there yourself and get a feel of bulgaria ,you will be pleasantly surprised..
go out a few times at differant times of the year to different places.
put it this way if you were living in bulgaria and saw the latest crime in england everyday you would not come back...

hope this helps a little

Hello wyn,

Thank you for that. It really helps.

Hello januszo,

I am bulgarian and I am happy to hear that you want to invest in our country. What you heard about the corruption is right, altough the crimes aren`t as much as in Britain. We are small and poor country and it is very hard to find yorself a job here. More of the businesses aren`t going well. If you still want to invest here  you should choose the capital Sofia or some resort city in the mountains or in the coast of the sea.
I love Bulgaria and I love my hometown Rousse, but I rather live in some other country.

Hope that helps you!

Hello januszo, if you have already decided to invest, I am glad to learn it if you gave this is bad news.
In Bulgaria, as elsewhere, there are pros and cons, but if you have the right people, you can achieve a lot.
I live in Bulgaria in Silistra town located in north-eastern part of the country.
I quite roughly contacts in the country and have some opportunities.
If you need any more specific information write me an email, will gladly try to help you.

C'mon guys be honest now. There is no property 'investment' in Bulgaria. By all means come and live here but it could be many years before your property has any decent return. Don't expect to buy, renovate and sell and make a profit. Ask any of the ex-pats who have had to leave and are still trying to sell a property years later with half of Bulgaria up for sale.

Ian thats a good comment obviously spoke from your heart and you want to be fair and give good advice.
But whats wrong with a long term investment plan is it any different to paying into a pention scheme.

Also how do you know there are no shorter term investments have you researched into everything. I can think of some stuff that i think might be good payers shorter term. You have got to be really well researched and smart about it. There are still property buyers coming in drips and drabs too. They have a lot of choice too much its too competetive.
However if a developer uses local people to purchase property cutting out agents and getting villager to villager rates and doing the work oneself its possible to sell something for a proffit.
That said im not saying its possible to make a lot of money i certainly would not advise anyone to try to make a profession out of it. If you could do it during time off your UK job or whatever it can work or like some people whop are on a pension and want a hobby.

rgorman I have been here full time for seven years and I do know a bit about the place. To come and go doing renovations over several years is of course possible but you are leaving your site open to thievery etc. whilst you are away, it's happening even in some unexpected places. In the meantime you have increasing travel costs, increasing material costs and the cost of everything in BG is going up. So overall I wouldn't say you could turn a profit from a long term renovation on a village property. I know several upmarket projects that have been abandoned too. Whatever you do somewhere along the way you will get ripped off, hopefully only in a small way but even keeping vigilant isn't always enough.
Come and live here full time by all means if you have an income of some sort and I'm sure you will have a great time away from the rat race. There is a great deal good about Bulgaria you just need to be here to enjoy it.

Salut Januzo !

In English please lorenzo4!;)

Thanks.
