Hello everyone,

Budget is an important consideration when moving to Mauritius. Ideally, expats would settle down in a city in Mauritius where the cost of living is low but where they could also enjoy a decent quality of life. Would you be able to give a few tips to someone planning a move to Mauritius by answering the questions below?

What are the cheapest cities in Mauritius?

Why are they cheap? What singles them out as a city where the cost of living is low?

What is the average budget for one person living in these cities?

Is it easy to find a job as an expat in these cities? What is the overall quality of life like?

Are they expat friendly? Would you recommend these cities to someone looking to settle in Mauritius?

Please share your experience,

Mauritius is not a country that can be said having cities in it. There is only one city which is Port Louis and the country itself can be considered as a city. London or New York or Paris Or Los Angeles are considered cities not Vacoas or Curepipe. The price to live is more or less same everywhere, except land prices differ thats all. The quality of life is same almost everywhere in the world now. You earn good money, you live a decent life, you don't earn enough you will be living through struggles. Thats about it!

Hi.. closer you are to the capital, Port Louis.. its a bit more expensive than living further away .... i was in Mauritius for about 15/20 days and this is what my observation is. I was there to understand the conditions - first hand.

@nissiovai Hello please note that your question is off-topic on this thread. Please create your own topic on the forum to enquire about job.

This thread is dedicated to cheapest places to live in Mauritius.

The main costs are property, rental or buying. Once your budget for this defined, everything else is about the same price. Renting a 3 bedroom apartment can cost anything from 18-35000 easily depending on where you want to live. Renting a car, or using public transport? That too depends on your budget and needs. Fuel costs the same all over the country. Prepared food in the malls is also similar. Superstores may have 'offers' but essentially most things cost the same in most superstores. Some things are cheaper in the Port Louis area. Restaurants definitely cost more in the more touristy areas but that too depends on your budget -- there are some very exclusive ones dotted around.  I would look for a place with good transport connectivity and near local markets if posible.
