Car Repairs in Dubai

Advice please...bought a secondhand car (4 years old) from a car dealer and 3 weeks later the gearbox has failed and needs replacing.  It is no longer under the cars original warranty, that expired a year ago.  One minute the dealer tells me they will help finance the repair, next they won't, then they will, then they won't.  Are they liable by law?

In England obviously if we buy from a dealer we have some rights...especially bearing in mind I only had the car for 3 weeks before it broke down but i've not been in Dubai long enough to know the protocol here.

Thinking of going to a solicitor but don't want that added cost if they just tell me the repairs are down to me.

Consumer protection doesn't exist. Unless you have a written warranty from the dealer it's down to negotiating with him to see if you can get at least some contribution for the repairs.
