Container

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask if a work permit is required to ship a container from a business in South Africa to a business that is already set up in Mauritius? There is one Mauritian director in the company and one South African director (he's the one in the process of applying for his permit). Just trying to find out if we can ship the container so it's there when we arrive in May - prior to the work permit being granted?

Thanks very much.

Since the company is a separate legal entity, the company should be able to import the container provided that it has all the necessary import licenses.

Hi,

No work permit required to import the container.

You can consign the shipment on the Mauritian Company Name.

To clear the goods from MRA Customs, your appointed Customs Broker need to register the Mauritian Company as an Importer by using only the Mauritian Director as contact person. This takes a maximum of 48 hours and can be done prior to arrival of vessel.

For registration with Customs in Mauritius, the following documents are required by a Customs Broker to do the necessary;
- Tax Account Number or  VAT Number and password
- Business Registration Certificate
- Certificate of Incorporation
- Mauritian Director's ID
- Business/Entity proof of address
(  By the way, this is a free Customs Broking Service :-)  )

I guess you already know the shipping documents you need to despath to Mauritius for clearance;
> Bill of Lading
> Commercial Invoice
> Packing List
> Relative Certificates for particular items shipped

Az

Thanks very much for the info!
