Hi I'm Anil from India. I studied my masters in Singapore. My course length (12months theritical + 6 months internship) its a requirement to do Internship as per my study requirements. I got an internship in Belgium(12months offer) company is telling we haven't applied for work permit any trainee till now so you don't need. But when I send my documents to embassy they ask me submit work permit. they are paying 1000€ to cover my expenses. And few interns already working there they haven't faced this issue. May I know should I hold work permit ?

With work permit it's always better, your chance of getting a visa is lower without a work permit. Ask the company to issue apply for it, it doesn't cost them anything but it helps you a lot.

Hello morlaanil,

Foreign students coming from a country outside the European Economic Area, with a limited right of residence:

Foreign students who have a right to stay LIMITE in Belgium have no longer, since 24 December 2018, to apply for a specific work permit according to the type of stay they have in Belgium. The complete list of foreigners authorized to work is included in the Royal Decree of 2 September 2018.

The residence card received by the student on his arrival or at the time of renewal of his card in Belgium will indicate on the back if there is a possibility of "unlimited", "limited" or "none" access to the market employment in Belgium.

Foreign students coming from a country outside the European Economic Area who are admitted to the LIMITE POUR STUDIES stay will also receive a residence permit upon registration with the municipal administration, which will indicate that they have "limited access to market 'of employment in Belgium.

However, these students must meet certain conditions to do a student job. They can work:

During the school holidays: Christmas, Easter, Summer (July, August, September):

Outside school holidays only if the occupation does not exceed 20 hours per week and is compatible with their studies. By "enrolled in an educational institution in Belgium" is meant in particular students enrolled in secondary education, university or non-university education, social promotion education if the studies are considered full-time studies (proven by a school certificate), preparatory years (except preparatory languages), private education if it is assimilated to full-time studies.
Failure to comply with this rule will result in the withdrawal of the residence permit and therefore the impossibility of continuing to study in Belgium and working on it.

!!! The foreign student who arrives in Belgium in summer, as he has not yet taken a course in a Belgian institution, is not allowed to work.

!!! A foreign student from a country outside the European Economic Area who is studying in Belgium or in a member state of the EEA or Switzerland who wishes to do a compulsory school training in Belgium is exempted from a work permit.
